I’m considering an upgrade to my system. Currently I run an i7-4770K and GTX 660ti on a 1920×1080 screen. Clearly, GW2 runs more on CPU than GPU speeds, however I have found that messing around with several of the GPU based settings has increased or decreased my FPS in various areas including WvW—where I like to run at full settings where I can.

Running at max/close to maximum settings I get ~25–35 FPS in cities, ~45–60 FPS in various open world areas, and anywhere from ~15–60 FPS in WvW (and in large scale events in HoT zones with tons of people) depending on how many are on screen.

I’d like to ask everyone what they are running CPU/GPU wise, screen resolution, and what their FPS experiences are like. I’d like to move to a GTX 1080 when the partner cards are available so I’d trying to temper my expectations for GW2 with some rough numbers.

OC’ed 4770K (~4.1GHz) with GTX 970 here. 50-60 in LA and 15-20 in big WvW zergs. 1080 will still run like garbage because the game enine is an altered version of of the GW1 engine and a complete hackjob at that. Game is heavily CPU dependent and how all those WvWer can play sub 30 is an absolute mystery to me.

edit: 1080p and max settings except reflections because apparently tuning that one down is supposed to help with framerate.

Never have character model limit past lowest and your frames will be higher

As per signature.
I get good frames in LA but of course zergs tank.
I use master effect so I have usually 70-99% GPU usage at all times.
Supersampling and all reflections enabled including everything on high/ultra.
The exception is character quality which I have a high not very high.
Until GW3 comes out and has a new engine I expect that no matter what I do my fps will pretty much be the same.

Specs in sig. I see 45FPS in LA, 60 in the open world, and get like 20-30 in zergs depending on how heavy they are. Also somewhat interestingly I sometimes see some drops to ~50 in raids. I honestly think a GPU upgrade would come in handy since I usually/often see really high (85%+) utilization; I’ll probably grab something new and possibly go 1440P once AMD’s new cards are out and I can see some benchmarks

Settings are character limit medium, shadows on high, reflections on terrain and sky, and render sampling native with everything else maxed and I’m running sweetfx

i7 2700K @ 5.3GHz and a GTX780ti. Roughly 60fps everywhere except zergs where it drops to 30-45fps. I play at 2560×1600 with everything maxed except AA, which is set to FXAA.

If you want GW2 to run smoother you need the best single thread CPU performance you can get because the engine is archaic.

You’re not going to see any visual ‘improvement’ with a GTX 1080 unless you display FPS to detect it!

Otherwise I would expect a noticeable reduction in noise, assuming you have some
