Potentially Stupid question about jumping technique
if you take a few steps back (away from the roof) you should be able to make it. I had this problem at first and realised it was because I was actually getting stuck under the roof

Thanks for tip but I have tried going as far back as possible on the beam. I even watched a video on YouTube of somebody doing it (stepping back as you suggest) and they seemed to have to trouble. I tried to copy them but still no joy. It’s really annoying because I relish the learning curve in this game and love slowly getting to grips with all the subtleties of how my characters work but this one daft thing is holding me back.
if it makes you feel better it took my gf a whole hour to get up there. it is an annoying one, and not because your (or anyone else’s) lack of skill either. its just fiddly.
have you tried stepping back and pressing jump more than once? sometimes it helps and you manage to catch the side of it. or side jumping onto it. might not help much, but worth a try none the less

mouse mode would help greatly. Please implement ANet!
what do you mean by mouse mode paelen?

I was wondering the same thing. Do you mean if you press the left button you jump?
Anyway, thanks for the tips folks. I’ll give it another go but I think I may have to resign myself to not getting 100% completion. There are, frankly, other things I’d rather be doing in the game which are more fun.
well worst case scenario wait and come back to it, or get a nice mesmer to portal you up there

Hm… good point. Any mesmers for hire out there?
The Claypool vista is one of the hardest vistas, so don’t get too discouraged.
I practice by jumping up on everything that looks accessible and make my own vistas. It’s easier to practice with less pressure and when a missed jump doesn’t set you back so far. A couple things that helped me:
- some jumps you want to move forward and then jump and other jumps you want to jump then move forward.
- turn off double tap to dodge
- there is usually an invisible platform that extends beyond the edges of what’s visible – it makes some jumps easier, but it also causes you to get hung up on roof overhangs and such.
- if you’re missing one jump over and over, try it from a different spot/angle. Those beams are the hardest for me, and I’ve found them easier jumping at an angle instead of straight across.
He might start thinking he knows what’s right for you.

It seems to work best for me when you start as far away from the roof as possible, nearer the end of the beam. There does seem to be a bit of an invisible ledge extending slightly past the roof, so perhaps try and land on top of it instead of aiming for the roof itself.
And of course as someone already said, as an alternative just get a mesmer friend to help you out. ^^
Thank you Pandemoniac and Kiraki. The whole invisible thingie is a very good point. I will try again with renewed vigour! Wish me luck!
I just did it!!! Finally! I now have 100% of Queensdale! The slightly annoying thing is I got some lovely green armour which I can’t actually use which seems a bit daft. You’d think they’d gear your reward to your profession. Oh well.
