Precursor vs T6 -- advice
Probably, or better still, put in a sensible buy offer. The sell offers are always overinflated prices that sit there for days or months on end waiting to snare that unwitting buyer. Post up a buy offer and someone who wants to sell it will sell it rather than wait.
Yeah, buy offers are surely more reasonable, but my point is that I’d need to sell 500g worth of T6 mats for this anyway (zap buy listings currently vary in 1200-1300g range).
I’m not really sure if it’s good move, because I lose 15% of their worth this way (due to tp fees).
As you can target the T6 materials for farming purposes and mitigate inflation by acquiring them over time, you should ALWAYS get the precursor first. Absolutely sell your materials to place a reasonable buy order for your precursor now.
Sell your lower tier materials first though, as you may have enough of them to not need to tap into your T6 stockpile.
Also, remember that T5 mats can be up converted to T6, and it would actually be easier to acquire those for conversion so if you have sufficient kitten mats such that you can get Zap then definitely go for it.
I am having this same debate with myself. I have a good chunk of the mats but I am still about 200g away from being ‘safe’ to buy the precursor (don’t want to spend all of my gold at one time). I find it hard to trade in those t6 mats because I know I have to farm those again and it’s not fun. I am holding onto the t5 mats and converting the harder to acquire t6 but that crystalline dust hurts.
I think for me, because it’ easier to farm gold than it is to farm t6 mats, I am holding onto the mats and just farming my brain out at the karkas/FGS.
Thanks. I’ll focus on getting precursor first. :)
Yes, I have other things to sell (lower fine mats, not needed cores/lodestones, gemstones etc), but still I’ll have to sell part of T6 stockpile. Anyway, thanks again for advice.

Salvage globs of ecto for dust. Up convert incandescent dust to crystalline. Up convert the lower tiers to incandescent.

Also, it is cheaper to convert cores to lodestones than it is to buy the lodestones out right. I remember this pain when I was going for my Bolt. Right at the end two incredibly generous guild mates dropped the remainder of T6 mats and dust on me as a gift for me to make the first legendary in our guild. That was last year some time.

Think of it like this:
If you get the Precursor first, then your materials are gained at a rate of 1/250.
Today you have 1/250 Vials of Blood and tomorrow you have 2/250 Vials of Blood (assuming you acquired a Vial of Blood).
If you get everything else and then go for the Precursor, your gold gaining rate fluctuates.
Today you have 400/1500 gold (26.66% of the needed amount) and tomorrow you could have 410/1600 gold (25.63% of the needed amount). It is very possible for you to increase your amount of gold while still LOSING ground overall (notice how you now have a smaller percentage of the amount needed?).
Because the materials can be acquired in fixed quantities out of a total fixed quantity, you cannot lose progress. Because the precursor is acquired via gold, you can lose progress at a faster rate than you can acquire gold.
Yes, that is a good point and I do see the cost of the precursors are always rising. Gold farmed for precursors vs mats is the same gold no matter where I stick it. I just hate farming mats o.-
I recommend selling the stuff and buying the precursor now.
I looked back on http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/29181 and the price was 740 in January… Now it is up to 1,400 gold.
The prices will only continue to rise until ANET implements a precursor acquisition method.
Get it now!!! T6 mats are going up.. but at a much slower rate.
