I wouldn´t suggest elementalist, because it´s the hardest class to play with. Besides that ele needs a big buff(just open the elementalist forum, QQ in every single thread). And the only good option for high DPS is Lightning Hammer(which is annoying), because I want to deal high DPS with MY weapons.

Mesmer is a very cool class in my opinion. Light armor on females + greatsword looks awesome. Played it a short time, but the greatsword skills are so boring that I quitted. If you are fine with the greatsword skills, you should give Mesmer a try(portal, teleport, invisibility, timewarp etc. are amazing supporting skills).

I cant tell anything about Necros, because I never played this class, considering that there are a lot of Necros at the moment(after the huge buff) I would guess the class is fine

At of all my casters, Elementalist is my favorite.

While it can be challenging to learn how to play, you can neutralize alot of the more challenging stuff while leveling up with the Fiery Greatsword elite skill, just lure your foes to a wall and press 4 (running into the wall) with no target, and auto-target off.

Lightning Hammer is also very powerful. Ele is probably stronger than Warrior when it comes to DPS in dungeons because of these. I can’t speak for how good it is in WvW/PvP but I’m sure if you could survive using FGS through a zerg would be quite powerful

Mesmer is my second favorite, it’s a fun unique class. It’s damage is a little low and I wish Phantasms were more viable in PvE but they get destroyed by AoE too quickly so it’s better to use a shatter build. What it lacks in damage Mesmer makes up for in utility, between Signet of Inspiration, Feed Back, and Timewarp, they’re very useful in dungeons

Necromancer, it’s fun but not in my top 5 classes. You can go power or condition damage which gives it some variety. I currently like my life stealing build. It has decent burst AoE but once the Wells or other skills are on cool down it doesn’t do much AoE mostly due to the lack of a melee weapon that cleaves. It’s damage isn’t great compared to others in PvE, but if you just play for fun with your guild and aren’t worried about speed clears, this doesn’t matter. It’s still a good class, from what I’ve read it’s very strong in PvP and WvW due to it’s condition capabilities

From a mixture of what I’ve read and experienced or watched myself:

Mesmer:
Strong in PvE due to utility. In high-end dungeon groups looking for maximum efficiency, tends to be swapped out for a guard.
Strong dueling class, but not so good in PvP because other classes hold points better and when trying to burst a player down they’re generally able to wear you down and evade until another team mate comes along. 1v1 though, very good.
Used in WvW for veils in PUG zergs, organised groups take advantage of veil, null field, feedback and timewarp. Decent class, but generally just a utility bot.

Elementalist:
People sometimes claim they havea hard time leveling up with them but I have no idea what their open world efficiency is at level 80. In dungeons, conjured weapon elementalists taking advantage of lightning hammer and fiery greatsword in addition to their might stacking output the best DPS in the game, if not very close to the best.
For PvP I don’t know much, but apparently they’ve been nerfed to oblivion.
WvW theyre some of the most useful players since you have access to a billion combo fields in addition to a ton of AoE. Static fields can stun whole groups of people for your zerg to take them down, fire fields for might, water fields for heals.

Necromancer:
Strong DPS in dungeons, just lacks the utility that other classes do so not very popular to take in a group.
Dominate the PvP scene at the moment.
The amount of AoE and CC they can apply in WvW makes them strong there too.

It’s damage is a little low and I wish Phantasms were more viable in PvE but they get destroyed by AoE too quickly so it’s better to use a shatter build.

No, not quite. Phantasms give you sustained DPS while shatter makes your damage more front loaded. With faster phantasm cooldowns through the appropriate traiting and illusionist’s celerity, you can have pretty solid phantasm uptime. Mesmer DPS is generally lower than other classes but people who have done some number crunching claim that a mesmer with full might stacks and three phantasmal duelists up have the highest DPS in the entire game, or at least near to it.

Sanctum of Rall (NA) – [LOD] – PvE/Dungeon Phantasm Mesmer build
Morrï (Mesmer) | Serah Mahariel (Guardian) | Morrï Mahariel (Warrior)
