Project on Economy for MMO Design Class
1) Six months. I had an epiphany.
2) no
3) From 120g down to 80g or so, had my current character get to Level 80 and bought exotics armor and weapons off the TP.
4) For me, I spend 60-70g a month on gems. For the most part the only thing I buy from vendors are crude and basic salvage kits, mithril gathering tools and armor repairs (I rarely go into areas where I need top end gathering tools). So maybe a gold or two a month. Of course I make all of that back in a month at a couple gold a day. I can only guess how much is skimmed off by the TP. The stuff I don’t/can’t salvage for mats (as well as excess mats) I sell off on the TP and since that is my primary source of income, maybe 12-13g a month in fees and taxes.

First of all I played since release, this is something to be considered because getting money at this time wasn’t as easy as it it now.
1. About 2 months, I leveled cooking, which was a pretty high cost, low yeild profession.
2. Rarely, almost never
3. ~1silver, pretty much as low as you can get, after buying materials for a legendary
4. Altogether? I think around 150-250g. I use the TP very frequently and I also mystic forge alot of cores (elonian wine)
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
1. It was about a year before I had 100g. But that’s mainly because I only save up until I have enough for the next thing I want to buy, and it took that long for me to need 100g. (Bear in mind I’ve been playing since launch and a lot of more expensive things didn’t exist or were a lot cheaper then.)
2. Only twice so far. And it would always be knowingly. Like I said I save up for specific items, buy them and then move on to the next one.
3. Less than 1 gold.
4. I have no idea. I don’t pay that much attention to my everyday purchases or things like TP taxes.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
1. It was probably 3 months after I got 80 that i actually had collectively saved up 100g. Never have I actually had 100g at once. I always spend it on something before that point.
2. I spent 95 gold in a day, thats my highest on record. That was about a month of saving, before I needed some more progression on what I was doing.
3. 94 copper. Had to beg so I could waypoint.
4. Whatever I sell, I make back double that in dungeons and the like. But roughly 5 gold a month is lost on TP fees and vendor stuff.
- How long after you created your first character did it take to make 100gold?
- How often do you knowingly spend over 100gold in a day?
- After you earned your first 100gold what is the least amount of gold you have had, and how fast did it get that low?
- About how much do you think you spend that leaves the system and doesn’t just move money to different hands? (Gold to Gems, NPC vendors, etc.)[/quote]
Short version:
1. 2 Weeks
2. Once a week
3. 50g, course of a 8 days.
4. Gold to Gems ~60g a week, other expenses 5g more or less.
Goodluck with your project!
Longer version:
1. Friends donated money to let me craft to 30-35, leveled quickly through dungeons and paid them back in a matter of days, rest I spend trying all bits of the game they recommended (more Dungeons, Fractals, Worldbosses etc.) without them it’d have taken me a lot longer.
2. I don’t spend anything most days (except salvage kits and the like) and spend the time playing, when I have time left-over or see something I like I get it instantly from the money I made the days before. Will likely stop doing this as regular once my toons have the looks I want.
3. I’m temporarily on a connection that doesn’t support gaming much, so any time online I deperately attempt the daily and spend the rest of the time spending. I usually try to stay at 200g ‘just in case’
4. Over the past 8 weeks I traded about 60g for Gems/week, but I got everything I want after March-sales most likely so that will stop. The other expenses is a guess, the usual; Salvage kits, Gathering tools, Repaircosts. Also everything I buy I soulbind (~100-200g/week) but not sure that counts.
