Hi,

Created this account and still installing.

2 questions if I may;

1) Is there a link to the online store where I can buy in game items or is that inside the game?

2) What would be the best character to start out with?

Thanks

I have only one question… why do I need to download 67,546 files after installing 2 DVDs worth of content? O_o

1) There is an in-game store for you to use.
2) Same question as in every MMO and same answer given. No one can tell you what you are going to like, there is only one way to find out. I personally enjoy the elementalist and the giardian thats as much as I can say. I have heard other people say that giardians are good (if you like melee) and the same goes for elementalists, but that might not be the case for you as you might even hate the play style. Try out different classes and you will find out pretty soon. Doesn’t take too many levels.

Hi, givah,

I noticed a download start as soon as I put cd 1 into the drive. I thought it is a patch file or something.

Because the data was “printed” onto the CDs in advance, and every change they have made ever since (and there were plenty)has to go through a patch that you download

Hi Mato,

Still working out the forum format to reply to posts.

I like both range and melee and kind of like what I saw in a video about being able to use many different weapons.

I feel that I am like a cat who would jump out of the boat after the cat before me, so would would be say the most played class as of today for example.

I know how patches work. I was just amazed that there seems to be about 5gigs of new files to be downloaded so soon after launch. I guess the devs have been busy, which is ultimately a good thing.

Well, I believe all classes can be ranged/melee to a certain extent. An elementalist can do damage at close range with dagger/dagger or dagger/scepter combination (usually for PvP only though since as a cloth wearing class you wanna stay at range).

But if it is weapon switching (during a fight) then Elementalists are not for you since they cannot do that. They can switch between elements (water, fire, air, earth) but the nature of spells is limited to your weapon such as Staff elementalists have the most AoE and Ranged abilities and no matter what element you are in you will be restricted (mostly) to such spells. Then again a dagger/dagger elemenetalist for example can’t really do damage at range.

It really boils down to what you are willing to try and learn to like or fall in love with or completely dismiss.

As I said, give them all a go, it doesn’t take that long to figure out how the class feels and plays (the only thing you need to do is unlock all the weapons so you can experiment and figure it out and that takes minimum effort).

All I can say is, give it a go. If you want ranged I’d suggest elementalist (because for ME its the most fun out of all of them) and for melee a guardian, as they can use various weapons, from staves, hammers, two greatswords, normal swords with shields etc., they wear plate can heal and take damage, and their abilities look cool (once again its MY preference and you might disagree so you really need to try them out)

I had to download like 8gigs after installing with a cd as well.

1. It’s ingame.
2. Nobody can tell you that, play the class that’s similar to what you usually play.
Rogue – Thief
Hunter – Hunter
Warlock – Necro
etc etc

got my self this game today (first timer to this game and MMO) and i have to find out in shock that it has to install 10gb worth of files (over 71000). thats insane.
i find that not particularly good if a developer has to patch things with such a huge amount, after such a short time of release.
i hope these patches dont become permanent.

Oh, it’s not “has to patch.” They’ve released new content nigh monthly, and it’s been extensive. New lands, new events, new items. While they’ve been fixing problems as any MMO must on a constant basis, they’ve also given us amazing holiday stuff, minigames, costumes, massive battles, evolving story …

There are people unhappy with the implementation of the new content, true. There have been bugs and connection issues and the like. But almost no one has complained “this should have been in at launch.” Because really, the Halloween madness or the Wintersday extravaganza wouldn’t have worked in August!

I think it’s a -great- thing that they are doing so much highly creative ongoing stuff for us, expansions worth of content for no subscription fee. Jan/Feb promises even more.

i see. thanks for the responds.

well, i guess im unhappy with it since its my first MMO. never played others because of the monthly fees . this was always a huge turn off for me. but after watching the review from angry joe, i thought i give this one a try. always like to create my own characters and have some fun online with others (just at the beginning i think i will suck big time).1

i agree that it is nice of the developers to upgrade and give it all for free on top of it but still a big shocker to see suddenly a huge amount being downloaded before you can play the game. i think this should be optional if you want to have the new maps or at least let us choose what we want.

i guess i proof that i have no ideas about MMOs and my complaint is a big laughter for you guys.

well, downloaded so far 53%, over 35000 files to go. yes, my connection is not very fast.

People who install the game after 3rd January will probably have a lot less to download because one of the things you’re getting at the moment is all the Wintersday (Christmas) festival stuff, which includes several new instances, lots of NPCs, new enemies etc.

But one of the selling points of MMOs is that you get regular free updates as well as paid expansions in some games. There’s another one due for GW2 some time in January so there will be more to download then, but at the end of it we’ll have a bunch of new stuff to do.
