Is there a purpose for skill points once you have obtained all of your slot skills?

There’s a vendor at the mystic forge in Lion’s Arch where you can use your skillpoints to buy specific items that can be used in the production of a multitude of items.

More specifically: The items you can buy there are used in the Mystic Forge itself to create new random stuff and not so random stuff. (Eg.: Stuff for your Legendary weapon)

I’m still hoping for a star of transference type of item too.
