Purpose of guilds
If You’re not into the guild that You’re in now just look around for some other. There’s a plenty of them, just listen to the shouters in Lion’s Arch.
A lot of them also uses some type of voice communicator – which is often beforementioned in announcements. Try to spot some of them that are advertising atm and ask them to join. Look for Your place
Cheers
Yea that’s what I need to do.. Because I want to do more things with the game I feel like I’m lacking a little because I don’t know where or what everything is yet..
Guild is the first step to know things – if You got somebody to ask for all the new things – You can learn the world and the game much faster, and what’s more important – funnier.
That’s why it’s good to have some friendly guildies around. Just look a bit more cause it’s not always will be Your first guild to be the best one, but eventually You’ll find Your place.
Either way – Lion’s Arch is the best place to look. And You can always try finding forums for Your server and look there as well.
Why would lions arch help me find a guild? That’s the place with all the portals right? I’m new so some things I don’t quite get..
Yeah, You’ve got it right. Lion’s Arch is a sort of “capital” city of Tyria, at least for now. What that means – it’s most populated city with players and it’s centre of social, looking for groups, looking for guilds people. That’s why it’s the best place to look in-game – on the map chat You can see a lot of guild-recruitment announcements and others. You can also ask by Yourself on the same map chat if there’s any guild recruiting at the moment. There are always some nice fellows there.
Ok I never new that lol… Thank you for that..
It sounds like you are in a not so good guild. The advise others have given to look for a new guild is sound advice. On the other hand I would like to offer this observation about guilds that are sending announcements out over map frequently. While I’m sure this doesn’t apply to many guilds, I would be a bit hesitant to just join the first guild that is /map “Join our great guild. We are the most fun and do everything. Great members…..”
I believe at times when you see this, some guilds are just trying to take in as many new members as possible so they can rack up guild influence faster for the sake of something else aside from helping new players. Spamming /map every 5 minutes in my mind makes the guild questionable and in my opinion is indicative of lack of consideration because most people don’t care for guild spam in chat. Please note once again, I know this does not apply to most guilds. Still, many good guilds do not need to advertise very often as their reputation tends to speak for itself.
My advice is this. While you are traveling around in the world observe other players with guild tags. Look for players actually playing together with the same guild tags. This is a good sign that the guild does play together even in the low level areas and probably helps each other out. If you see something like this and you are interested in their guild send a whisper or a mail stating something along the lines of you are interested in their guild and would like to discuss the possibility of joining.
You can also look in the guild forum and post that you are looking for a guild as well with a detailed message of what you are looking for. Make sure you mention the server you are on:

Once again this is not a very good indication of how good the guild is, but if you take some time and look for the more thought out guild advertisements this may help you make a better decision.
If you do contact a guild and specify that you are interested in more information and the first response is a guild invite I would be wary of that as well. I better sign that the guild is more supportive of new members is if they take the time to discuss their guild with you.
In my opinion joining/being invited into a guild should be a two way interview process. This helps to improve the chances that a new member will find the helpful and fun guild they are looking for and also improves the chances that the guild is getting a member that will participate. I don’t mean a 1 hour discussion but a few minutes to discuss both the benefits of the guild and what the guild will gain by taking you in.
Once again, not all guild that advertise in /map are just trying to stack new members for influence or to look more popular, but I feel that many do. I’ve even seen advertisements saying things like, “Join our guild and you will automatically be promoted to an officer.” o_O
tl;dr
Be selective when it comes to joining a guild.
Make sure to ask questions before joining as well expect the guild to ask you a few questions before the invite.
Consider using other methods or tools such as the guild forum to search out a guild that interests you.

This is why I (and some other people) insist that guilds requiring members to represent all/most of the time is good for members and not just leaders wanting influence points. The main point of a guild is to give you a group of people to talk to and play with, and that falls apart if no one ever represents the guild.
Like other people said I think the best solution is to find a better guild. Before you start I’d recommend having a think about what you want from them – you’ve got some good starting points already but think about what you like to do in-game.
Do you spend more time in PvE, PvP or WvW? Do you want a casual guild who won’t mind if you don’t know what you’re doing in activities, or a more hardcore guild who might have higher standards but are more likely to do harder content (like high level Fractals or Dungeon speed runs)? Can you be on at a regular time and want planned activities or do you have a more erratic schedule and want to just do things as and when you’re online?
Those are just some examples. Think about what you want to get from a guild, then go looking for one who can provide it. You can look through the guild section of the forum, but also ask around in-game.
It might take some trial and error to find one that’s right for you, but there definitely are guilds out there that can offer what you want.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Guild missions and easier to do group activities. Its also an additional chat channel. Other than that there is no purpose.
Keep looking. You will find a guild and group of players that fit you and your playstyle soon enough.
If you are in a guild that is not meeting your needs, move on to another one that might!
