Duke Vindictae (80 Chronomancer)
Pain is temporary, Regret is forever.
I want to play into the storyline before I really get into PvP, I have no armor class preference, I just want something good for soloing/grinding through PvE. I do like AoE damage but versatility is nice aswell, thinking of trying a Mesmer, any advice?
Mesmer is a bit complex and probably more PvP oriented in terms of it’s real strengths. But obviously if you come to like it then stick with it.
So far for me Ranger has been the most… relaxing PvE experience. Easiest world completion solo for me (even easier than Guardian, because the pet can be a really useful distraction in the highest level zones), enough weapon versatility to not get boring and collecting pets is decent motivation to explore. And as a bonus it can be turned into a decent farming class once you hit 80 and want to amass some wealth for whatever purposes.
You can use any class in PVE. But if you want AoE damage and a lot of versatility, Engineer or Elementalist is for you. Fair warning: those classes do have a high learning curve.
Warrior for if you want to look cool in heavy gear but have a very basic play style which is a bit slow. High damage and decent survivability.
Guardian for a very basic play style, just cruise through the levels with very few problems. (My level 30 Guardian has 4 deaths and one was falling off a hill and the fall damage glitched.)
In my opinion, go for something more complex, and harder to play. Either Elementalist or Engineer as they are both versatile and strong when built correctly.
Or you could go for Thief which is what I started off with. But that’s only really if you plan on doing quite a lot of WvW Roaming (running around by yourself killing enemies) or sPvP.
Mesmer take a while to get rolling, but don’t get discouraged. I’m with The Baws. Play something a little more complex, and Mesmer definitely is one of the options there along with Engineer and Elementalist.
There aren’t any good or bad classes for casual pve. Pick the one that looks the most fun.
Mesmer is pretty poor at AOE. I’d recommend a guardian if you want utility and AOE, they have the best mob tagging skill in the entire game (staff 1) and they have blocks, reflects and project absorption which are extremely useful in dungeons. Also it’s extremely forgiving while leveling, and when you get to higher levels you’ll burn through open world mobs like they’re nothing.
Thanks, amoing to try Mesmer, from what ive done so far its a pretty crazy class, but my second choice sounds like its going to be a Ele or Guardian. I tried a Engineer but I don’t like the fact u have 3 weapons to choose from, Pistol, Rifle, and a Shield.
