Hello community,

I have had the aforementioned item in my inventory for years and couldn’t open it. Now I tried in the PvP Lobby and it worked. I got six exotic items (armor pieces and weapons) out of it.

Here is my question: What do I do with those? I can’t equip them (even the ones that are usable by my profession) and they are all soulbound (even the ones that are not usuable by my profession).

The skins have been unlocked, but I am uncertain what I am supposed to do with these items. Isn’t there a so-called PvP Locker where I can store them? How do I access it?

P.S. I have never played PvP, so I am a newbie in that department, sorry.

According to the wiki, you shouldn’t have been able to even open them anymore, so maybe you being unable to equip the items is a related issue.

As to the PvP locker… that feature is long gone. It’s been merged into the wardrobe system.

Btw, how did you get a PvP achievement reward without PvPing?

I don’t remember how I got the chest. I played GW2 during the beta, then bought the game and installed it on release, but hadn’t really played it until last Christmas. So I really don’t recall the means of acquisition, sorry.

I did read the Wiki entry before posting here, but it didn’t help me. That’s why I came here, in hopes someone can tell me what to do with those items, where to store them, why they are soulbound (even when not fit for the profession), and so on.

So: Help, anyone? Destroy them? Store them?

Wow, that is very, very whacky. And man does that take me back in time!

If I were you I’d probably wind up storing them just for keepsakes.

Maybe one of the recent patches bugged and made it possible to open that chest.

Can they be salvaged or mystic forged? Or you could keep the items and be the proud owner of some of the most exclusive/unobtainable items in the game

Actually, I sent a request to the ArenaNet support, because I had that chest left over and couldn’t open it. They asked me to destroy it and sent me a new one, which I then opened tonight. (lol)

And no, unfortunately they cannot be put in the Mystic Forge nor salvaged by normal means. (I think there is a salvage kit available on the TP, but it’s super-expensive.)

I don’t see a point in keeping them if they are of no use. What good is it to own exclusive/unobtainable items if no one sees them nor can I sell them for gold?

There’s not much point salvaging old PvP skins – it’ll just give you the old PvP crafting materials, which are also useless, and could only be used to make PvP skins.

At a guess, I think you may have got this from an old version of the reward chests awarded every 500 achievement points? They used to include a chest of PvP skins before the wardrobe was introduced.

Okay, so I guess I’ll just destroy them then. Too bad. At least, I got some skins out of them.

P.S. Darn, why didn’t I check the TP before opening the chest? Apparently, there are still some being sold on the TP for 154 gold.

These were for a fundamentally different system that has since been adapted. One of those things that isn’t really discussed is HOW they were adapted.

PvP weapons used to be directly usable in PvP. In fact, they were stored in the PvP Locker (which is no longer accessible), and you could change out your gear with stuff that was held there. These skins might still be storable there, if you use the automatic bank function (just like crafting materials to your regular bank). You won’t be able to access them any more if you do, but they’ve already served their new purpose – unlocking skins in the wardrobe.

So what happened to the old PvP gear? Well, it seems it all still exists. Every now and again, new entries will pop up in the Items API for PvP weapons, even though they are no longer being made. What looks to be happening is that, whatever gear you are wearing when you enter PvP, the PvP version (lvl 80, statless) is cloned and equipped. Periodically someone uses an unpopular skin in PvP and we get a new entry. While you can’t access it directly, you can still finagle old PvP gear onto your character.

BTW, congrats on getting the Heavy Scale piece. It is no longer possible to acquire.
