PvP "Direction"
Pvp is one of those things where you will learn more as you play. Don’t expect to win a lot at first. If you want to make it fun, you have to change your mindset into ‘that you did well if you see yourself improving rather than worrying about how everyone is better than you’. There are many different builds you can use, and because of that, it can be hard to find a lot of in depth guides on how to play your profession since nobody really has a “best” build. But, if you take the time to watch guild wars 2 streamers especially teams like team paragon, you can find some good guides/builds there.
just a question, but is this your first mmo? although even if it isn’t i’d suggest you head to your class forums and try to find a guide;
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/39-ranger/
is also a good place to look at and should give you real in depth help of learning your class, but as you know (if it isn’t your first mmo!) that you’ll learn in time and figure out what you can do to improve
Hey – and thanks for the replies.
Nah, this isn’t my first MMO, I’ve been playing them since SWG (which had no pvp, but that was my first) and I’ve played all of the ‘big’ ones – and with that being said PvP in this game seems the same but damage wise/ability wise it seems completely inconsistent.
Anyway… I’ve been looking at the profession forums and doesn’t seem to be much there – also looked for some pvp vids and nothing really out there that’s very constructive, I just probably need to learn all of the 50 skills that each class has – no more ‘watch for X and Y for class Z’ it’s all about ‘consult my spreadsheet’ for pretty much most encounters.. at least thats what it feels like.
I’ll look for some of the Paragon stuff too – but again I know my skills and I don’t see them 1.) working as expected [consistently], and 2.) don’t see consistent damage/healing/etc. from pretty much everyone I fight. I know gear contributes ALOT.. but I won’t get into it.. pvp just feels very disjointed.
Again, thx for the feedback, if I lose interest at least I haven’t been dropping a sub fee.
Section – I think the inconsistency is problem due to how people are building in PvP itself. Lot more focus on toughness and also vitality mixed in there as well. On top of this people are focusing heavily on condition removal (no clue what your build focuses on or much about rangers in general).
On the flip side you will experience diminished healing perhaps due to some debuff that got slapped on you. You also need to remember that depending on what style of PvP your doing the amount of players your fighting can greatly impact how well you are going to do. WvW is rough when facing any type of large group because if you get focus fired specifically as a ranger your going to feel like a giant paper bag that dies in two seconds. Best recommendation here especially as a ranged class is do the best you can to avoid getting flanked or sucked in to the larger group that’s attacking. i know this seems obvious but WvW is very high paced and you can get swallowed rather easily. There will also be so many AOE flying around it’s hard to dodge them all but that is a goal as well. You don’t necessarily need to memorize all the skills of other classes but as you play you will start to see some obvious ones that you perhaps want to dodge etc. Just a small amount of insight but hope it helps you to get back in the saddle.
