Q:
PvP Incentive?
A:
Titles, ranks, pretty gear, PvP legendaries, kitten. If you open your character screen and go down to PvP (the screen that let’s you go to heart of the mists), there’s a bar that shows your current PvP rank.
Fun. You play PvP for fun. All else is secondary.
Nothing. Its pointless as hell after wave of excitement wears off.

This and more.
The current system of WvW we have in GW2 will give your server specific benefits depending on how well you are doing. It does not seem as vital to keep up the battle as in DAoC (where you actually had shift work with your fellow realm mates to make sure there were no midnight raids on your keeps by an opposing realm). I do hope that they someday increase the magnitude of importance to WvW.
GW2 has similar PvP rewards to that which WoW had (never played LoL so I cannot speak for it) You get unique looking gear with PvP specific stats, and other things that Garrix mentioned. I suspect NCSoft to add to this system in the near future .. maybe sometime around christmas we’ll see a nice PvE and PvP content patch.
Dont you dare to tell me that wow has pretty gear.
It is just reskinned content with different collorrs in it.
Anyways, pvp in gw2 is more about skills and looks tham’gear.

Perhaps YOU play just for fun, a lot of people, myself included, need to feel a sense of progression and reward as well as fun from our games :P

Then you should have gotten a job, not a game. Srsly sick of people expecting to be “paid” for being entertained.

Have not really played WoW PvP since vanilla, and back in the day they had unique armor skins. Not all were “pretty” but at least they were not recolored skins from PvE content.

You’re arguing over an opinion, not a fact. He/she takes fun in getting achievements. That doesn’t take away from your fun. Maybe he has the most high paying, demanding and difficult job in the world. He still might find GW2 PvP “progression” and achievement hunting fun.

Way to miss the point…
PvP titles ? Meh those have no skill involved just mindless farming of battlegrounds.
Gear ? I haven’t changed my skin once because I find it a waste of time.
Pets ? Nope, gotta grind those in PvE.
Competition ? B* please. You can’t even tag as a group unless you got some o’ them tournament tickets.
I’m having trouble grasping how the PvP is going to keep people playing.
The fact that all the the battlegrounds are tiny, that there are no competitive arenas without objectives, no leaderboards, etc. also have me skeptical.
From what I’ve gathered so far, PvP in this game is just that. Mindless PvP.
If you want competition and a real sense of progression you’re better off playing a different game.
Fanboys need not respond and bash me. I’m not going to read your posts so you’re better off saving your time and everyone else’s.
For me the incentive to PVP is PVP. Why would you need incentive to do the most fun part of the game? To me, fun is incentive to do anything.
This is stupid. You need incentive to have fun? If you aren’t having fun, do something else.
This is like playing football in your backyard, not the NFL. If you want fantastical prizes for competing, maybe this is the wrong game for you.
I want something shiny
Fun?
I’m quite happy doing PvP with friends as it’s always excellent fun and the time just flies. I doubt I’ll ever tire of PvP with guildies, it’s never the same as we always find something random to do (last time we all dyed ourselves cantaloupe pink and started following single allies like an armed pink escort)
Get yourself a guild and enjoy the game, MMOs don’t have to be about chasing carrots.
A friendly guild for a fun experience! Always recruiting :D
The rewards the game offers as good for this type of game. This game focuses on skill-based PVP, not gear based. So there cannot be any more powerful gear offered. And that in itself is a good thing.
If you win, or lose, it’s not because you had better/worse gear. It’s because you have better/works tactics, coordination, or skill. That in itself is an incentive. PVP where everyone is on the same level playing field.
Would be nice to know how good the person is you just beat/ got beaten by. Titles/ rewards/ gear what ever could show.
Lame going into a battle and everyone looks the same. From what I gather tho there is different gear
Being on the same level is great!! That part is just dandy. But I want to know if thr particular person I’m fighTing is good or not. Befor I fight. Why? Just because
Titles don’t denote skill, just amount of time played.

PvP Incentive is to have fun.
But the problem is that the current system is not fun in many aspects. Especially the hot joinable format, which is just a mindless zergfest with no incentive to win at all.
They should just bring back the Random arena format from GW1. It allows you to fight different foes every match, very fast paced, encourage team work from random people by rewarding consecutive wins. It was by far the best PvP format that I have played in any game. I can not understand why they abandoned it in GW2.
Shrna!! That sounds fun
PvP by itself is fun, sure. But I agree that some type of progression is needed and should reward skill but at the same time not punish “bad” players.
I pvp for fun, but the actual content available is quite lacking right now. I’m glory rank 25 so I’ve played a loooot of hotjoin and tourneys (500+ total games), but at this point I really don’t log in except for 1 or 2 tourneys with the guild every couple days.
I don’t want to have uber gear that no one else can compete with but right now the rewards are just so terrible compared to every single other mmo including GW1 that it’s a stark contrast and does make things feel pretty pointless.
I spend all my glory on boxes which open up to give the same crap I’ve gotten 100 times already, the level curve is exponential and is at a point where I need to pvp a full day to even get 1 level, and every 10 levels I get a new finisher that I can’t even use outside of the mists.
Plus there is no leaderboards, no bragging rights, and a lot of the good teams have already stopped playing because there is no way this is going eSport any time soon. It used to be the last round of a tourney you’d face off against a good guild team. The last two weeks I literally haven’t lost a single match, and the last round is usually a bunch of randoms that we steamroll, and then we get a gold box of crap we already have.
Is skill not already rewarded by, you know, winning? And being bad is punished by losing.

Just do tourneys. It’s in no way a guild vs guild tourney right now, I’d estimate 80% of teams are just solos or groups of at most 3 people joining.
This is very disappointing to me. There is no fun in stomping pubs with a 5 group, but I also want to play with my friends.

You get a kitten?
Incentive to play a game…. Fun maybe? Others have said it and I will add my pennys to the pile. This game is NOT gear based in PvP. lets keep it that way. It’s one of the reasons the game is doing so well. An MMO aimed at skill based PvP, not that gear grind treadmill that most all other MMOs try to shove down our throats. Age of Conan was supposed to do the same thing, but they chickened out and went the wow way, Now look at the game. 25 people still play it.
