Ok, so PvP.

Since you have the availability to scale up to 80 when you enter the Mists or WvW, is PVP viable on a character that you haven’t leveled to 80?

Is there any benefit to leveling your character up to 80 before starting PvP? Or can you gear them up just the same on a level 2 character as you would on an 80.

I hope this makes sense to someone. haha

For WvW:
You are leveled to level 80, but your armor and stats are not of perfect quality as a true level 80 character would be, also you don’t have all skills and traits available. So here it is better to really be level 80

For sPvP:
You are leveled to 80, with a separated set of traits and all skills unlocked. The armor vendor and the weaponvendor sells you weapons and armor for free (you get a default skin but you can choose between different stats). This means a level 2 in sPvP is totally equal to a level 80 in sPvP.

Mercury’s answer is spot on. The only thing I’d add is that, naturally, playing a character to 80 gives you more chance to get the hang of them and learn how to use them more effectively (in more forgiving environments!). You can think of it like the campaign mode to practise before PvP. Nonetheless, sPv kitten pecifically designed so that you can jump in any time at equal strength!
