Dear Guild Wars 2 Community:

Are achievements, such as Jumping Puzzles, Dungeons, Explorer, etc. account-wide, or can they be achieved for more achievement points on multiple characters. Or, are SOME achievements account-wide, and others character-based?

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

All achievements are account-wide, so you can do them using any character. On a related note, achievement rewards can also be shared between characters.

There’s two exceptions to this:

The Explorer achievements (Maguuma Explorer, Ascalon Explorer etc.) for uncovering areas of the map and Been There, Done That (for doing all the hearts, vistas, skill points and points of interest) have to be done on a single character.

The game does track all your characters progress but separately and the progress shown on the achievement is for your most complete character. To complete them you have to get 100% on one character, you can’t combine all the bits each character has done.

You can do it multiple times (and map completion will continue to reward Gifts of Exploration) but you’ll only get the achievement and achievement points once.

Are you sure about the explorer achievements. I was almost 100% positive that they are account bound. That is to say, unlike world complete, you can complete parts of them on different characters. They don’t have to all be done on a single character.

I wasn’t sure, I’d read a discussion about it on the forum ages ago and assumed since that was the conclusion everyone reached it must be right.

But I’ve just tested it. I checked on my most complete character and found an area they hadn’t been to, checked none of my other characters had been there either and then went there and uncovered it on a relatively new character (who would definitely have the least map completion) and it did count towards the title.

So I take that back. Been There, Done That has to be done on one character but the Explorer ones are cumulative.

Explorer and map completion are slightly different in that Explorer is for revealing areas that are “fogged” on the map and the map completion is for getting all POI, Hearts, Skill Points, and Vistas. Some of those fogged areas don’t have these and it is possible to get map completion without getting all explorer achievements.
