BasrĂ (lv.80 Human Ranger)
Myreanna (lv. 80 Human Necromancer)
Hey my fellow Guild Wars players!
I was wondering if there is a possibility that I can have both of my accounts online at the same time, whilst controlling the individually (Bots = evil!) without getting my account compromised/banned.
I’d love to level a char on the second acc, with the help of my beastly main.
I’ve read this forum post beforehand, but cannot find a rule/policy that dual logins itself are prohibited, only if you do it with 3rd party software.
So, my fellow forum lurkers, could you provide me with an answer to my question?
Thanks in advance!

to be honest with you, I would write a support ticket and ask. Just in case your account(s) get suspended for what so ever reason, you would have something to rely on and you would know for sure if you’re allowed to do tho.
If we look at the ToS nothing speaks against using a 2nd account when used correctly. But again, ToS change all the time and only Anet would be able to tell you if that’s ok.
I would have thought as long as you were only controlling one character on one account at a time and didn’t automate any part of playing (so the one you’re not controlling literally just stands there) it should be ok.
But I also agree that it’d be a good idea to contact support and then save the reply, because that way if you do run into trouble later on you’ll have written proof that they said it’s ok.
Gaile has a sticky for this in the Support forum, actually:

You may use more than one account at the same time.
You may use more than one computer at the same time.
You must be actively playing on each account.
And as stated above, you may not program your keyboard to perform functions on more than one account at a time.
a. For example, if you press W on your keyboard to move forward, a single character on a single account should move forward. The keystroke or mouse click should not perform functions on more than one account.
It seems to assume you’ll be using another machine to run the second instance, but I suppose it might be possible to run it twice on one machine. (I’ve never looked into it, so I don’t know if it can.) If you run it twice on one machine, though, the “they must be controlled separately” restriction gets a whole lot more complicated.

I don’t think it does.
By default a computer only puts your commands into one program at a time. If I have internet explorer and GW2 open at the same time playing GW2 doesn’t cause me to also type wwwww5321431wwwqqq1231 etc. into the address bar. Likewise if you have two copies of the game open it doesn’t put your commands into both, just the one that’s currently selected.
You’d have to go out of your way to write or install a program to let you control both together. So as long as you don’t do that you’re fine.
I do this in GW1: I have 2 accounts and 2 copies of the game installed so I can log into both at the same time. But when I’m controlling one character the other one just stands there (or dances). Actually doing anything is more complicated because you have to keep switching between the windows but making sure you comply with the rules is fairly simple.
…You’re absolutely right. I’m not sure what I was thinking there, hah.
(Spoilers: I wasn’t thinking.)
Well the main problem with running two GW2 on one computer is that GW2 itself prevents a second instance from starting if one is already running. You might be able to get around that by creating another account on the computer and starting the instance from that but swapping would be very cumbersome.
Probably could easily run multiple instances of the Gw2 client by using VMs (virtual machines).
