Question about picking a profession
Guardians or Warriors are usually the more team oriented builds, they can give lots of buffs and some heals to others. That being said, in my experience for PvP, it’s better to be more reliant on yourself than others, so you’re gonna wanna be able to do some damage too not just supporting. Warrior has more potential at being a solo player, and are typically damage dealers but like I said, can be good at shout or banner support. Guardians, especially in PvE, are imo the most support oriented class.
Healing isn’t useful in this game (in PvE). The main strategy is damage avoidance. I think you would want guardian for this, as the closest thing you can do to healing (that’s beneficial) is give aegis (which blocks the next incoming attack) before a big one hit kill.
In WvW, most zergs use water fields to blast (AOE healing) and PvP you’d want a bunker build. Most likely an engineer, guardian (or possibly ele) that can stay alive in 1vXs and help heal teammates on mid-point.

So for WvW you’d suggest a guardian? Is it fun? I saw lots of posts that it was boring.
Also, WvW is PvP isn’kitten How is this a PvE game then? Other than the leveling up.
Also – what’s a Zerg? And is the Mesmer useful for WvW at all?

I think guardian is fantastic in WvW. I have all professions, and I think guardian is probably the most boring in PvE (just my opinion) but a blast in WvW. You would pretty much play as a front line control machine. Pushing your way into their zerg and trying to mess up the people in the back line, or stopping them from moving through you guys.
A zerg is a term stolen mainly from starcraft. In Gw2, it refers to a blob of players in wvw (usually 15+ people). Zergs are the main force in WvW maps, usually led by a commander. Then there are small roaming groups or havoc squads that are meant to hit side objectives or distract.
There are 3 main parts of the game. PvE, WvW, and PvP. Wvw does include players killing players, but anet actually considers it PvE. When Anet makes balancing differentiations between PvP an PvE, WvW is grouped with PvE.
A mesmer is very useful for WvW. Portal bombing used to be all the rave, but not so much anymore. This is when a mesmer would drop his portal, then invis up to the enemies, drop the other side, and the full zerg would come rushing out from an advantage point.
They are still very useful for veil (which you would drop infront of your group, and your whole zerg would turn invisible for a couple of seconds), nullfield, feedback, blinds, confusion.
Edit: Another useful thing for mesmers, is that they can get inside keeps/towers. SMC, Garrisons, and keeps have two walls. Many times, a zerg might get through outer, but get wiped at inner. A mesmer could hide inside while the team WPs and comes back. After outer is repaired, the mesmer can drop portal and bring his friends back in.

As the posters have said above and you yourself there is no dedicated healer in the game. I understand that you played as a healer in WoW but the combat in gw2 is a bit different. That being said every class in the game can support but the top supports in the game I would have to say are guardian and elementalist.
The guardian is a heavy frontline class that focuses around damage mitigation than outright healing. The guardian does have great healing potential as well compared to some of the other classes.
The Elementalist is a master of elements, and has the ability to swap into Fire, Water, Air, Earth with each element focusing around different roles so to say. Water for the Elementalist tends to focus around support and healing. Elementalist has one of the strongest (non self heals) in the game on staff (Geyser and Healing Rain).
Both of these classes are wanted(needed) in WvW
Argh! I have chosen to become either a Mesmer or a Guardian.. I have read your comments over and over again.. I am playing with a friend who is a thief, would a mesmer work better to play along with him? Or a guardian? We are planning to do PvP/WvW(Still don’t get the difference, please explain if you can!). Now, I get pretty angry at games that are boring at start and I quit, but I really do not want to quit here. So as I said – what would you still suggest me between mesmer and thief?
Also – off this topic.. How should I choose a world to play in? Need a world from Europe for PvP/WvW (or is this different from WoW? all worlds are the same? In WoW worlds are especially for PvE or PvP)
PvP: 5v5 or 8v8. The gameplay is mostly conquest. You get points for capturing and holding the points, along with few points for killing and side objects. The first team to 500 wins the round. Your character is automatically leveled to 80, you have all your skills, and everybody has access to the same sigils/stats/runes etc. (Aka, it’s all about player skill, build, and team coordination)
WvW: Server vs Server vs Server. 3 servers go up against each other for a week over 4 different, very large, full sized maps. It’s kinda like conquest, but on a much larger scale. You capture and defend camps, towers, keeps along with building siege equipment like rams, trebuchets, even walking golems.
As for the class, mesmer and thief are pretty similar. They are both about confusing your enemey, avoiding attacks, stealthing to lose aggro, etc.
Guardians are the complete opposite. I think both would work well together.
In a small fight the guardian would hold focus and protect the thief, while the thief tried to get some sneaky attacks in.
Or you could team up as a mesmer and you guys would just use invis + clones to really confuse your opponents.
Edit: The only real point of a server is WvW. You can PvE and PvP with anybody you want on the EU side through guesting. However, you can only represent your home server in WvW.

So I guess I will start with guardian. Are there kinds of guardians? If so, which should I be if I love support? Could you please explain each one?
Also – which server would you recommend me to join? Very High population is not recommended right? PLUS any specific guides you would recommend me to read/watch before playing?

Guardians imo are the best support class. Healway is a very popular support build, just google it. However, dont take that build into PVE, as its simply not needed. Bosses generally have one hit mechanics, and regardless if you stack toughness or healing power theyll still oneshot you.
As for servers, it doesn’t really matter for anything except WvW. You can “guest” to any other servers, which is like a free temporary transfer.
As for things you should look at before you start, i strongly reccomend this guide

Yeah, so what are some good servers? And is choosing an Ultra Popular server good? (Will it cause lag problems or it being full?)
And finally – can you have more than one build? If not, is there a person you can buy to change it? If yes – is there a command? And I am not sure I understood the build. The BUILD helps you do the healing? Or SKILLS that you require skill points for? Like can I just change build and bam, be something else? Sorry for the confusion..
Thanks again.
EDIT: Just saw the guide. If I understood right, we can all be mesmers in a dungeon and still be great, right? Etc. Guardians look pretty boring as they have a few main skills that bore me to hell. Mesmers looks much more interesting and powerful. Think I am going with mesmer if what I said is correct. Also – does mesmer have a few support skills at least? If so which? And IS it good for PvP with a good build? Or maybe is an engineer a good class for PvP and PvE? As it can do everything? Is Engineer fun on both? Can it support etc and solo VERY well? Is it good in 1v1? Also – out of my three picks, which profession is the most played?

i’m a warrior i got a shout build for my utalitys
but i recomand you to have all different types of weapons
i mostly go zerk so i normally run GS and double AXE in pve and dungeons
i always have a bow for if i need ranged
in WVW i go full soldier because if you are in a large group the damage comes in numbers and only if you stay alive you are us full i use hammer sword and war horn in it
in pvp i use hammer mace and shield
so every area you are going to need something different
for the server i would pick the server of your friend others you wont be able to play WVW together and you will always need to guest to be able to play pvp and pve together
i also have a mesmer when you know how to play and you do i good everyone will love you GS sword and focus are good for pve and wvw
in pvp i use sword torch gs and utalitys mostly change while you are playing sometime you need this sometime this so it changes a lot sometime

I just saw another video and Guardian again looks more fun ^^ My mind changes up all the god kitten time! Anyways – I guess I will need a few builds for it too.. Can you have a few traits too? Or the traits are perm?
And by a world I meant what world shall I pick? Any good ones by name? Or is it just a luck on the field?
traits are perm but can be rest add a traits trainer
or you need to buy a trait reset in the gem store
are you from EU or NA?

I’m from EU. Well Israel. So I’d love to know a server with a lot of Israelis. I got told there’s one. However I am not sure if it’s worth it going to that server as I want a server that is STRONG for WvW.
I can’t comment on EU servers, as I’m on NA. I’m on a very full server and I enjoy it. There is more activity and WvW is rarely empty. On the flip side, some maps have overflows. So if you are on a very populated server and a big event comes up, sometimes you get kicked out to a different map (rarely and only if you get there late). Also, WvW has a set limit and during prime time on populated servers you might have to queue up.
WvW strength is Mostly (not completely) about numbers. So a more populated server is more likely to do well.
Mesmers and Guardians are both really strong and wanted in PvE. I prefer mesmer gameplay, bu that’s just opinion. It’s also REALLY easy to level in this game, so it’s easy to level up and completely gear out two or more characters.
Like I said I have all 8, but I’d say 5 are exotic geared or better. I’ll play on my mesmer, but if another mesmer joins the group (you really only need one) I’ll switch to my warrior.
If you want the closest to healer playstyle, then it comes down to Guardian or Elementalist, maybe Engineer. That isn’t to say that other classes can’t pump out heals, but for them it is more passive healing compared to active healing/prot.
Guardian will have stronger protection and life-saving capabilities, however if “backline” support is a must then Ele can do it better from range with water fields and the like. But if you don’t mind being a frontline or mid-range supporter, then Guardian is the stronger option that encapsulates the heal/prot/supporter playstyle the best.
the best servers for WVW are Desolation, gandara, aurora glade and far shiverpeaks
1 of these will be your best choice these servers got the most wvw activitie
you are going to need TS in wvw
so the commander will have a easyer task commanding
