Guild Wars 2

I have a friend who’s interested in playing Guild Wars 2 with me, but he lives in NA, while I live in EU and play on an EU server. Is it possible for him to set his location to the EU servers when he creates his account so we can play together? And if so, will he be able to play just fine, or would there be a lot of lag for him since he’s all the way in NA?

He will be able to pick EU servers to play on. He’ll just need to use the little drop-down box at the top of the window to switch the list from NA to EU.

(Also just so you’re aware quite a few EU servers are currently showing as full, so he might not be able to join the one you’re on. But he doesn’t need to be on the same server for anything except WvW, so if that’s the case tell him not to worry and just pick another one.)

As for lag it depends on a lot of factors. My free account is on the NA servers and I don’t notice any difference to playing on EU. But then I apparently have an excellent internet connection compared to a lot of people – I only get lag when there’s a lot of people on screen (world bosses or WvW zergs) and I can’t remember the game ever crashing due to lag.

Other people report that the game is barely playable in their own region and unplayable in another.

Best approach would probably be for him to join EU and see how it goes. If it’s really bad he can transfer for free by deleting his characters (and if he’s new that shouldn’t be a big loss), he will still keep everything in his bank and everything that’s account-wide like gold.
