Quit GW2 for months. Is it worth coming back?
It’s worth it because there is no cost involved. Except for the Living Story Season Two Episode (One) you missed.
Season Two is very different from Season One, but only you can judge if you will enjoy the new map and events.
Good luck.
Play the game and make up your mind from that. The echo chamber of the forums will not be incredibly helpful.
Right now the LS isn’t a zerg fest but instances where you go in and do the story line. You can either solo them or do them in a group.

Yeah, the new living world stuff is far less zergy. The maps are designed very cleverly to mitigate zergs, and the content is more focused on the story instances. That said, the story will probably only take a couple hours for you to clear.
Whether it’s worth it to come back? That all depends on how much you enjoy the core gameplay. In my opinion GW2 isn’t meant to be played 8 hours a day every day for 10 years straight. It’s something you pick up and play for a few weeks, then take a break just like any non-mmo game.
If it was the LS content you disliked, the Season 2 LS is rather different, so worth coming back and giving it a go.
The core game hasn’t changed much. We’ve had new features such as the wardrobe (allowing you to have account wide skins that can be applied to your armour and weapons), trait system, PvP rewards have had a revamp. There’s probably other things I can’t think of ’cause they feel normal to me now.
But we haven’t had any new dungeons, fractal rewards are still a mess, classes have had minor balance changes but will likely feel exactly the same.
