So back from being on hiatus (on Piken Square server)…since well release basically and wanted to start a new character and play through the whole PvE aspect of the game, but I am having some serious drama….which class to create and level. Here is my dilemma which hopefully you can help with, I guess I am trying to defer my final decision to someone else in the hope it will settle me on a class to play till the end. I want to do it all at endgame, thats SPvP, WvW and PvE content dungeons etc

So basically I have 2 classes in mind, warrior and elementalist.

My issue stems from basically this:

Elementalist
Pros – Like the quick paced movement, love the spell effects, like the idea of doing damage and healing where needed, good in SPvP and WvW?
Cons – don’t like the armour look, concerned I will be pencilled into healing and healing only, can’t use lots of weapons and no weapon switching (although lots of spell switching), hard to play in SPvP?

Warrior
Pros – Like the quick movement, LOVE the armor look (have a charr), like the amount of weapons you can use and switch to
Cons – Too popular? I see ALOT of warriors around, being kited can be a pain in PvP?, Concerned that due to so many warriors won’t get in a nice guild

So thats where I am at at the moment, and I find myself, loading in one, and then switching to the other, I know I can eventually level both, but I want to stick to one levelling it to 80 and then maybe move onto the other at another date.

Anyone clarify my decision for me, I know its lazy but sometimes a stranger’s advice is more helpful than trying to work it out alone….

Both are very viable in all parts of the (end)game, so it is just a matter of personal preference.

One – Piken Square

Sorry for not being more helpful, but I just stated a fact. Can’t go wrong with either of those classes

Your concern for being pigeon holed into healing for the elementalist is unwarranted. In PvE everyone is in charge of keeping themselves alive. In WvW and PvP the most you will do in terms of healing is provide water fields and even that role in WvW is lessening with all the Rangers running around right now with healing spring.

Also with elementalist at any time you’ll have 8 more skills than a warrior despite the lesser weapon options.

Your concern about warriors not being accepted in a guild is LUDACRIS or ludicrous. Warriors have multiple viable builds for pvp and wvw. The reason you see tons of them is because of their lower learning curve and the less punishing more face roll pve gameplay.

Conclusion, both are viable in all aspects of the game. In pvp and wvw more than class choice what matters is your skills, knowledge, and how you can apply that to outplay your opponents.

Solution: make ele first and learn the game on hard mode (once you learn ele it’s even more face roll ownage in pve than warrior) and go back to make a warrior so you can do dungeons for the 1000th time with your eyes closed.

Warrior is popular yes, but that does not make them unwanted. They are very much wanted in PvE (I have no idea for WvW and PvP, I don’t really do those). They are easy, straight forward and forgiving. You’ll see a lot of PuGs asking for Warriors (or Guardians) because of the heavy armor and easy to execute high DPS.

Elementalist is also very wanted in PvE and honestly I’ve seen them increasing in number more and more due to the fact that they’re at the moment probably the highest DPS class for dungeons and the Ice Bow ability. For the rest they’re the complete opposite of Warriors: Unforgiving, squishy and a lot of skillls to juggle, plus you have a lot of combofields you can blast yourself while Warrior is usually depended on others for creating fields (as far as I know Warrior only has a fire field on longbow, but I’m only like 50 hours in on Warrior so I may be overlooking something).

Thanks for the alternative view Melanie, looks like I may be levelling them both at some point
