I have never played a guild wars title before this so im not into the lore but rp has always been a favorite part of mmos to me. Can anyone guide me to the official or uofficial rp server?

Tarnished Coast is the unofficial RP server. There is no official RP server.

Tarnished Coast is where all the roleplayers gather, hit up Divinity’s Reach if you want instant roleplay action. It’s literally around every corner

Tarnished Coast for NA, Piken Square for EU.

It’s not supported in the sense that there is no official server for it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it outside of party chat.

I’m not even on one of the unofficial RP servers and I’ve seen people RPing in both local and map chat. (Although it is much rarer outside of those servers.)

Although I don’t RP, I am on TC and respect those that do RP. Just one thing though, please keep erping to a private chat. I really don’t wanna hear thatstuff

There are also bannings for mature RP which is tolerated on WoW official RP servers, where I used to RP which is why I said it is not supported by ANet in any way. I mean, a triple A MMO in 2013 with no RP servers lol who woulda thunk right? Idk.

GW2 tries to be a full fledged MMO yet it misses a ton of components.

To be honest I’ve never been quite clear what “Triple A” is supposed to mean other than “I personally like this game” so that designation doesn’t mean much either way.

And yeah, in any game rated 12/10/Teen etc. I’d expect mature RP in a public channel to be a bannable offence.

(Also, if you wouldn’t do it in public in real life, and I assume you wouldn’t, how realistic is it really to RP it in public?)

^I swear often in real life, so my RP equivalent is not a far fetch, plus my first point was keep it to whispers so he don’t get banned because RP is not supported here.

There is an important difference though between mature/erotic RP not being supported and any RP not being supported (or even being a bannable offence) which is what your first post seemed to suggest.

To the OP. Yes Tarnished Coast is the unofficial NA RP server. While I don’t RP myself, I find it completely delightful to encounter random groups in my travels around Tyria. It adds an extra layer for me in my gameplay and I love our RPers. You’ll likely find the bulk of RPers in Divinity’s Reach at the taverns, but you can also find them in Charr territory, Sylvari territory and particularly in Rata Sum. (Those Asurans are tough little buggers, lol!) I’m not sure about the above discussion about censorship in /say conversations, but I’ve run into a ton of players using it. I think the issue is language, in that profanity is not likely accepted. Otherwise, I see RP conversations all over on Tarnished Coast.

I was out yesterday in Timberline Falls and I ran across a sizeable group of RPers doing an event. I loved it!

To clear up what a previous person said… The English language is a wonderful thing. When A-Net is said to not support RP, they are not saying that it is not allowed. They do not have an official RP server. That is all that is meant by that. Also, they do not tell people with idiotic names in game that they are not allowed to have them. RP in /say and in /map are very much supported by the community.

Roleplaying is just another way to say make believing you are your character. When people here are talking about RP they are not referring to Erp… SO many people take the word RP to mean Erp. I would say the majority of RP in this game is not Erotic… Unlike in some other games, I have seen very little Erp in public channels. (Although there is one area in Divinity’s Reach that you can hear some questionable moaning coming from a building, not sure if it is undead, or a house of ill repute)… . If people are looking to fully immerse themselves in the world, Tarnished Coast is the place to be.

Turn off player names, because honestly the worst part of Arena Net not supporting RP, is the name issue.
