Radeon 6850HD OPINIONS please!
Hi,
I have the 5850HD which works nicely in my rig!
It may be a good idea for you to ask what makes up other peoples rigs as well as a 6850HD as the different configurations are likely to give differing results.
Hope you get the info you need.
I have a 6850, game runs pretty well for me. Typical frame rates are 40-50, worst I’ve had is low 20’s. Most settings on HIGH, except shadows and AA. Have not done much WvWvW post launch, so no idea how it performs there.
Should also mention,
16GB DDR3
Phenom II x6 1090T, OC’d to 3.5GHz (I’m lazy)
i see, thanks so much
For performance & fps values, you need to say at what monitor resolution you want them, otherwise it’s just a meaningless number.
I ran a single 6870 and it is perfectly fine except for WvW, when the zerg hits you are going to drop to an FPS range that is not comfortable to play with (10-20).
its 1920×1080, i guess that the average resolution for most monitors these days.
My 6850 and phonom IIx4 955@3.6 gives me 30-80 fps generally with everything but shadows on high and no FXAA.
thanks!
i will definitely get the 6850, but trying to wait for a sale.
i was wondering, what wattage are your power supplies?
thanks!

Have a sapphire radeon hd 6870I bought back in April, has been awesome ever since. In GW2 get an average of 55-60 in everything (haven’t played wvw yet), with basically everything on high except shadows (medium). I have a 630 watt power supply. Also did very well in Tera online which is a much more demanding game.
Getting ready to build a new rig so if you want a sapphire 6870 for cheaper then a 6850 shoot me a pm.
Edit: at the moment paired with an intel i5-2500k @ 4.3ghz

I’m running a 6870 HD and I usually get 70-80 FPS on normal maps and around 40 FPS in the midst of HUGE zergs in WvW like 50 people casting spells at the same time.. I never get lag and runs smoothly with High performance. It still depends on what processor you’re matching it with..
I have a 6950 xfx and can run it at high graphics and typically get about 105 fps .. it drops to about 80-ish in busy areas. Mine has dual fans which helps with the heat a bit, but I adore this card.
No reason not to go for the 6870 – you can get it for the same price or less if you get lucky – and it’s a more powerful card.
And yes, your CPU will matter. I have a 6870 with an i5-3450 and it get ~60fps on all highest except reflections in normal play.
I have a 6870 and same results as cyflip. My cpu is i5-2400. Nothing is OCed and I run max settings everything. Due to the distance I sit from my display, I only run in 1366×7xx (forget the exact). My FPS is typically 60, though it may drop to 50 momentarily in high activity, not typical.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
You can always run a second card in crossfire later :P
thanks to everyone for the input, the 6870 sounds very tempting!
and BTW i have i72600@3.4GHz (& 8GB RAM), i guess its decent and very confident it will run the 6850 card or 6870.
Figure your price range and take a look here before you decide.

They update monthly. The link there is to the most recent, September 2012 article.
seeing how i can only buy the 6850 at discount price, i cannot buy the 6870 even at discounted price, so unless i get super duper lucky and get some extra money, i think 6850 would be my best choice!
and maz.2709 thanks for the site, i am sure of what card i want now.
