Hello friends, I played a Ranger two years ago and just recently came back to the game because the Druid and Heart of Thorns expansion sounds pretty good.

I am level 80 and have a few different sets of gear saved up, (settlers, zerkers, ect). I plan on focusing on the Druid for some WvW and possibly some of the new raid stuff. I also like soloing and completing quests/story and finishing up zones.

My question is where should i start and what should i focus on before the expansion comes out. I see they have living world season 2 for sale, is this something worth picking up?

Thanks

You are going to need hero points to unlock druid so make sure you have done some of the maps hero challenges. I’m not sure how many you will need to unlock the new skills and trait line.

LS Season 2 would be worth picking up, imo, if you care at all about the story. HoT will draw heavily from the events that happened in Seasons 1 and 2, and if you enjoy that part of the game then you likely would enjoy playing through Season 2’s content. Additionally, it will pit you against forces of Mordremoth, which in combination with the Silverwastes may help give you an idea of what kinds of things you may face in HoT.

As for gear and specs, play around with the new talent specialization system, keeping in mind that one of the three you pick now would be replaced by Druid to use its abilities.

Welcome back!

Hang onto your gear sets. We haven’t yet had any hands-on time with the druid or raids, so it’s difficult to say yet what gear will be most efficient for druid. It’s probably good to have a mix for testing.

Since you’re interested in story, I would recommend picking up LS2 while it’s on sale. There’s quite a bit to do and it will give you access to carapace/luminescent armors and crafting pieces for Mawdrey— which is (eventually) an ascended backpiece and a bloodstone dust eater.

If you haven’t done it yet, I also recommend you visit Turl Sharptooth in the Commodore Quarter of LA and do the quest to kill little karkas. Completion grants you Princess, which is a dragonite ore eater.

As the others have said living worlds season 2 is worth picking up not only for the story and armors but each episode will give you a mastery point to spend in the core side of the masteries

I remember reading somewhere that you would need “over 90” hero points to fully unlock an elite spec. Not sure where this information came from, but considering the costs of everything else and the elite nature of these specs, it sounds pretty solid to me.

Just a note, you might’ve realized it already:

Hero points are basically what you remember as skill points. The skill points you got from leveling don’t exist anymore, and those we had, or got from scrolls or tomes of knowledge, were changed to spirit shards, which are used to buy stuff for the mystic forge now (before, we used excess skill points there).

Hero points you get by leveling, and from doing hero challenges, which used to be skill challenges. With maybe a few exceptions in the starter areas, they work the same way they did in the past, so you’ve probably already made progress.
