So, im a backstory type of person so I like my profession to match my race, I have a Iron Legion Charr Engineer for ex.
So for ranger, the more I looked into it the harder it got.
Sylvari are in tuned with nature (rangers nature skills)
Charr, GW1 had a lot of charr archers
Humans, just kind of a neutral race for any proff
Norn, “the great hunt” their animal spirits?
So, which of these looks good graphically with Ranger? which do yall think fits the most?

Bane Of The Legions (80 Reaper)
Duke Vindictae (80 Chronomancer)
Pain is temporary, Regret is forever.

I would roll with a Sylvari as the race, they are very nature orientated (Living plants.) and their Racial/Elite skills mesh very well with the Ranger class.

I’ve got a sylvari ranger, probably the easiest to make lore-friendly. I’d say second would Norn Ranger, because of the spiritual attunement, and being called to the hunt. As you said, Charr and Humans are both pretty neutral on it, they fit, but not as much as the other two. Asura don’t fit too much, but you could make anything work if you tried hard enough

I would say the most Lore fitting is Norn. Ranger skills literally throw up spectral animal figures as part of the attack animations.

But given the lack of lean body builds for male Norn, Sylvari would be a close second with their innate connection to nature. One of your starting animal choices is a plant dog, which comes from the same tree that "birthed’ you.

After that, I would say Humans devoted to Melandru are also a good fit.

Were Charr Rangers able to use guns, I would toss them a vote as well. It just seems odd that any martial professioned Charr would be unable to use firearms, given their intense focus on the invention of firearms as one of their greatest achievements.

I feel the only real odd man out is the Asura. More than anything, you would imagine they would just build a golem pet, rather than taming one.

Norn are the most in-theme Rangers and Warriors.

Many Norn are hunters by trade, which is a common theme with Ranger skills/traits (hunter’s shot, wilderness survival, hunter’s call).

They worship the animal spirits, and what do Rangers get? Animals and Spirits.

Eir Stegalkin, the Norn hero of this game, is a Ranger.

Same way Humans are most in-theme with Guardians (being religious) and Mesmers (duplicitous politicians), and Charr are in-theme with Engineers and Warriors.

I have a human ranger but would go Norn if I had to it again.

Sorry, but for me Sylvari just do not cut it as rangers. They are more fitting as the light armour, magic user types.

Silvari and Norn both have very good reasons to choose ranger as their class.

Arise, opressed of Tyria!

I’m surprised to hear folks suggesting charr and rangers are a “neutral” fit lore-wise. One of the main characters in the Living Story (Rox) is a charr Ranger.

There are Rangers all over charr territory – who do you think those devouerers in Ascalon are being raised for? The charr may love iron, but they do have a strong connection to nature and to animals. Charr Rangers are a different fit than Sylvari, but they are a natural fit.
