Ranger runes wtill work with mini's?
It has been claimed that neither minis nor mesmer illusions trigger the bonus. All other companions are claimed to still work: ranger pets, necro minions, ele summons, and consumable-generated summons.
I have seen several people making the claim (although none that described their methodology).
It can be tested fairly easily in Heart of the Mists against a training golem, by using a scepter ele in air. The auto does a lot of small ticks of damage, with fairly little spread, so you can fairly easily calculate percentile differences and averages.
Basically every class has something reliable with which this test can be performed. Warhorn 5 on Necromancer, Scepter Air 1 on Elementalist, Symbol of Swiftness (extended, no vuln) on Guardian, etc.
If I recall correctly, for the damage % increase with a companion out, minions and illusions count.

And according to the wiki so do summons via runes.

Prior to the last patch, yes. However, that info is now outdated. Anet stealth-changed / fixed them with the last major patch and that info hasn’t made it to the Wiki yet. As per this thread, here’s what works and doesn’t work.

Things that do trigger Ranger runes now: Ranger pets, Spirit Weapons, Necromancer Minions, Elementalist Summons
Things that do not trigger Ranger Runes now: Mini pets, Mesmer illusions, Engineer turrets
No mention of elite summons (like Thieve’s Guild or racial summons) in that particular thread, nor item summons, so not sure on those.

I don’t trust using HotM for PvE or WvW (and sometimes not even for PvP); there are too many exceptions to how things work for me to assume (for testing purposes) that the mechanics are the same for all skills, traits, conditions, rune/insignia combinations.

You can also test it on the dummies in the Silverwastes with identical test cases.

Ah, good idea. Thanks.
