Rare Armor - 4 Slots
I do think you didn’t understood the upgrade system.
The rarity (rare, exotic, regular, etc.) of armor has nothing to do with the amoutn of upgrades slots. Each armor piece can only be ugrades with 1 upgrade (no matter what the rarity is). Sometimes the upgrade is already there and sometimes it is not (if it is there you can always replace it).
I think you are confused with the upgrades on the armor and the number behind it (e.g. 2/6 or 1/4 ) If you use the same rune on your different armor pieces, then the runes attached to it stack in a certain way. Take for example a superior rune of the baelfire: The description reads:
(1): +25 Power
(2): +15% Burning duration
(3): +50 Power
(4): 5% Chance to gain vigor for 10s when hit. (Cooldown: 30s)
(5): +90 Power
(6): 5% Chance to cause a fire nova when hit. (Cooldown: 30s)
So if you put this specifick rune on your chest-piece you get +25 power. If you put the same rune also on your skirt you get +15% burning duration. If you put it on all your 6 armor pieces you get all 6 effects.
Each armor piece can come with a existing rune. There are 3 kinds of each rune:
‘Minor rune of…’ can stack up to two times (so if you put 3 of them on 3 different armorpieces, the third won’t have any effect)
‘Major rune of..’ can stack up to four times (so if you put 4 of them on 4 different armorpieces, the fifth won’t have any effect).
’ Superior rune of..’ can stack up 6 times.
The kind of rune that is already attached on your armor doesn’t depend on rarity but on level. Armor for lvl 0-39 will only have a minor rune.
The major runes will start dropping and also be attached from level 40 and upwards (you can’t use a major rune if your not level 40 or higher)
The superior runes start from level 60 and upwards.
But it is very much possible to get a level 65 rare armor with a minor rune attached to it. Just get a supperior and replace it if you want to.
below level 40 you can have a rune on all 6 off your armorpieces, just make sure, you don’t get more then two of the same kind. (so 3 minor runes of Baelfire won’t work), but 2 of them and a rune of the centaur will give you 10 power (first Baelfire) + 10 power (first centaur) + 5% burning duration (second Baelfire).
Any questions?? just ask.

@mercury
Excellent explanation!
Cheers for that!!
In general, green armor comes attached with a minor rune, yellow comes attached with a major and orange comes attached with superior.
Hello and great explanation you wrote! But what I want to know is – Is it possible to get a 5/6 bonus in rare armors now? It seems to not be possible now. And that is in level 80 rare armors. The max slot seems to be 4/4.
Strange.. it seems some rares still have 6/6 slots for runes. The ones with magic find on them seem to have 4…
Nvm..lol
Figured it out
I don’t know how to explain upgrades to people who just reaaally don’t get it. They say thanks for a good explanation then ask a question that doesn’t work within the explanation…
6/6 means that 6 of your armor pieces which you are currently wearing have that same rune in them thus providing all 6 bonuses listed on the rune (one bonus for each item with the rune).
It does not mean you can put 6 of those runes on a single piece of armor.

Great post. Didn’t know it worked like that hehe.
Here’s another question. In your example of this rune
(1): +25 Power
(2): +15% Burning duration
(3): +50 Power
(4): 5% Chance to gain vigor for 10s when hit. (Cooldown: 30s)
(5): +90 Power
(6): 5% Chance to cause a fire nova when hit. (Cooldown: 30s)
Let’s say I have 6/6 in my armor set. How much total Power would it give me? Would it be just the last number (90) or would it be all of them added up 25 + 50 +90 = 165?
Thanks!
@Melk,
if you have all 6 you get 165 more power, + 15% bruning duration, + 5% change to gain vigot and + 5% change to cause the fire nova.
(so yeah they add up)
keep in mind this is max stat (when your doing things on your level or above your level) when downgraded, all effects will be downgraded as well.
