My current world that I am on is Blackgate. Now that the core game went free to play I finally was able to convince a bunch of buddies to start playing and they seem to be liking it and will be purchasing HOT. One main thing we want to do together is WvW so that leaves me in the tough spot of needing to move servers. They cannot move to Blackgate because it is never open. They are on Fort Aspinwood wich is heavily populated so it costs 1800 gems to move to it. Looks like it would cost me 30 or 35 bucks just to move servers which may not sound like a ton of money but for me it is a bit steep when I need to also need to purchase HoT here very soon. I only have one 80 so I’m really considering deleting him and starting over on their server but I wanted to make sure I do this right so I don’t loose my exotic gear. Is all I have to do is to bank all my gear and it will remain in the bank after deleting all my toons? Kind of sucks to do it but really leveling one character won’t be bad and they are all currently leveling anyway. I just want to make sure I’m correct on not loosing my gear.

Exotic gear gets soulbound which means you can not share it between characters so there is no point in keeping it. However, I would not let this be a deciding factor for you. Exotic gear is easy get. It only takes 7-10 days of farming a dungeon like CoF to get enough tokens to purchase a full set of exotic armour…and farming a dungeon with your buddies would be something really fun to do together as they will need to get their exotic armor as well.

What you can do is salvage your current exotic armor with the best salvage kit you have available to retrieve the runes, ectos, dark matter, and possibly some insignia’s. The runes you can use again while you can sell the ectos and insignias for some decent coin. And the dark matter is important for crafting ascended gear. Other than that, just make sure you place everything!!! that you want to keep in the bank. Don’t leave anything important on your character(s).

If you only have the one 80, I would most likely just delete him to get the free transfer and start fresh with my friends, especially if they are all starting from scratch as well. Don’t let something as minor as exotic armor stop you.

I did make an exotic 2 hander sword in the mystic forge witch took me a little while to get the shards I needed but again I could do that again. I was just hoping I could keep my exotics

Unfortunately, wvw gear cannot be salvaged or used in the Mystic forge….its a throw-away item, which is why I personally never use it. Sorry to hear that

You should be able to salvage your great-sword though. Not sure if this will change your mind but like I said getting exotic gear is not too hard. Run CoF p1 and p2 daily for 7-10 days with your buddies (once you hit 80) and everyone will get enough tokens for a full set of exotic zerker gear with enough money from the reward and loot to buy decent runes. Done and dusted.

Edit: You can also get all of your exotic weapons with dungeons tokens as well….just in case you were not aware of that. It would probably be easier/cheaper than making it yourself.

Is there a difference stat wise between dungeon bezerker gear and WvW zerker gear? I’ve been wanting to do dungeons but never really did because I was mainly playing solo. I’m a very casual player so things take me a little longer. But I’m kind of excited now to replay my warrior to 80. And now that I’ve done it once I may do it a bit different. Think I’ll work on more map completion and story. And I’ll sprinkle some wvw in for flavor.

Oh I was just wondering what about my wallet? That is account bound right so money and all other currencies will remain on my account?

All gear with the same prefix, level and rarity are equal in stats no matter where they come from.

Have you considered going free-to-play, too? Then you can pick the same server as your buddies and go with them to WvW. If they end up liking the game enough to buy HOT, you can purchase for your free account (and start sharing loot with your original account). If they end up playing less often and unwilling to spend cash for the full game, you can play with them on FA and swap to your unlocked account.

This allows you to trade some inconvenience in the short run in order to save you in-game gold and real world money.

I heard something about that but was not sure. Do you know if wvw gear will be treated the same as other exotics or will they salvage into different mats to avoid impacting the market?

From my understanding WvW armor can be salvaged to get you runes back as well as a few badges. I don’t think you can get mats from it.

Yea I thought about doing that but then all the account bound things like collections and crafting mat’s won’t come over right? I think I’ll just suck it up and re level to 80 and stick with my account. I’m guild leader of our very small guild so I’ll just make a friend a leader then stand down before I delete the character. Then he can change me back to leader on my new guy.

You could add your friend as leader just in case but the rest is unnecessary. Guild membership is account bound not character bound.
