Reached level 80, best way to start gearing?
The cheapest method would be to get Dungeon armor. A good starter dungeon would be “Citadel of Flames” path1+2 being the most beginner friendly. Start with P1 and when you get comfortable enough try P2. I suggest watching some walkthrough videos online before trying them out. By completing dungeons you will acquire Dungeon Tokens which can be traded in for Exotic armor/weapons in Lions Arch. If you run each path everyday you can get a full set of armor in about 1-2 weeks. Weapons will also take another week or so. The Prefix you want is “Berserker” (Power/Precision/Ferocity) which has the best dps and is the go to PvE set.

Keep in mind, dungeons are not the most efficient in terms of time, but they are the most efficient and cheapest in terms of money.
You are effectively getting paid money and given items to get your armorset if you do dungeons. It comes at a price, being time, though, so keep that in mind.
As long as you aren’t tyring to fully outfit in Zerker gear, buying Exotics off the TP is not that expensive. At least go buy a set of LVL 80 RARE gear to start with.
I cringe when I hear players point a new player toward the Dungeons. There’s no better way to make a new player quit than expose them to the attitude they are likely to find there. At least warn them that they are walking into a biker bar wearing a dress….

Well, just like anything in any game, doing something with no prior knowledge and not being in a group that’s accepting or knows that you’re new is a bad idea.
However, you can’t really learn mechanics of GW2 just by reading (for the most part), so it’s really, really good to get a group that’s willing to teach you the ropes (and by group, I mean Guild).
When I got to level 80, I kind of did whatever but had no focus. After joining a small guild, I started to do dungeons frequently. Then I kept doing dungeons more and more, and left the guild to join another one that did a different set of dungeons and so on. Almost all of my guilds have been learning experiences as opposed to “REPRESENT ME AT ALL TIMES BECAUSE WE’RE PVX AND HAVE 500 PLAYERS” because I personally don’t believe in PvX and also believe that a guild with 500 players is a community, not a guild.
Your point is valid except that typing a question in Open World and typing a question in the midst of Dungeon are going to get you VERY different reactions…..

Already got you covered.
If you want to start running dungeons before you find “the right guild”, you also can create your own LFG and state in there first time run or something. Speed runners should avoid it, and you’ll get either other people to learn with you (pug run) or people that are experienced, but not critical. And you may end up just falling into that perfect guild while doing this.
Just make sure to state that you’re new somewhere in there or in party chat… and try to host the instance.

Exactly the kind of “warning” I was talking about….

First, get a set of rare gears off TP, shouldn’t cost u a lot.
Exotic weapons: Easiest way is to get them through PvP. You need to unlock the reward track by competing dungeon story mode first.
Exotic armor: Easiest way is to get from WvW vendor. But there is a downside that you can’t salvage those from WvW or karma vendors which means you shouldn’t put any pricey runes in those armors. Alternatively, you can do dungeons to earn armors. Just as ppl suggest, start from Citadel of Flames.
Trinkets: Get the ascended Amulet from WvW laurel vendor. For ascended rings, the best way is to get by doing FOTM. If you don’t like FOTM, WvW laurel vendor is also okay choice. For accessory, join a Guild that does guild missions. You can get ascended accessory with guild commendations.
