I’m not familiar with AMD or Radeon specs, but I’d hazard a guess as medium/low?

what setting do you have Render Sampling set to? I would also advise you set your Character model limit to lowest if you have not done so already. It helps a lot.

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.

Yeah the game’s graphical settings are socialistic by default – they want “your good” but usually you end up getting something you with to throw back at them making sure you’re wearing thick protective gloves while doing so.

I got wholly different specs (NVidia + intel) but i can chip in this when it comes to graphical settings of the game:

Basically there are two sorts of settings in graphics – memory hogs, and processing hogs. If you got the RAM, memory hogs are no issue and you can ride them free – that is high quality textures, high quality character models, high environment.

Trickier part are the processing hogs and in my experience it’s the anti-aliasing that’s the main culprit of crappy fps. I turned that one off, and i can still get around 25-30 fps in most maps with shaders set to high, best texture filtering, highest quality character models.

I also owe a few fps to giving post-processing a skip, and not caring at all about shadow’s quality, though the latter probably doesn’t affect fps nearly as much if i were to guess.

Also set character model limit to low or lowest, while keeping their quality at highest. You won’t butcher the gpu when there’s more people on the map, while you’ll still get breathtaking views.

Also i had problem with game crashing completely, and freezing up my lappy. Like totally. Had to cut power to restart it, that badly. Turns out the solution was to download additional software for graphics card that let you set limits on it’s clocking speed. Once done, performance didn’t dwindle at all, while the crashing ceased completely. Ofc as i said that was on totally different specs then yours and different GPU brand, but just giving it a honourable mention.

Have you tried Autodetect? It should give you a workable base. You can tweak details go suit your needs then.

AMD video card drivers just updated a couple days ago……are you running the most current drivers?

Also, you might want to turn off anisotropic filtering in the graphic card settings(windows) if you have turned them on for games. I have a similar setup as you(older vid card – 7850) and GW2 seems to have some troubles with anisotropic filtering for me…..causes me to lock up at times, when turned on.

Your setup should be able to handle medium-high settings most of the time. You’ll probably need to do some of what Zefthewicked suggested when you get into large pve boss battles and large zerg fights in wvw to keep things smooth.

That card should not be running high, it’s a poor medium card. Try auto-detect and by all means tweak some values up but keep an eye on your fps. You have a poor GPU.

If you don;t want to play in lower settings then buy a better graphics card.

That said, it shouldn’t crash on you so there is also some other problem.

I have a similar system(albeit older) as the OP, and I can run high graphic levels in pve and maintain 40 fps or better all the time. Only time I have to turn my settings down is when I wvw, or in big boss fights with tons of people…….then the settings have to go to medium with some low settings on shaders and character models.

His cpu and gpu should be more than enough for the game most of time. His gpu may not be top end, but it is just as good as my older HD 7850, and because my vid card handles it as I stated above, his setup should certainly be able to do close to the same thing.(I do overclock my system)

Disclosure: I am overclocking both my cpu and gpu(at safe levels that I have rigorously tested…been oc’ing them both for well over 18 months now)……and that does make a performance difference. You may have to turn the settings down a tad on that gpu to achieve the fps I am.

That doesn’t make any sense the R7 240 is pitiful compared to a 7850, not surprising considering it’s about 1/4 of the price

Check some benchmarks here

My bad, sandpit. Thanks for posting a link on it. I had quickly looked at some benchmarks, and thought I had seen the OP’s card close to the 7850……..but after looking at your link…..I was obviously very mistaken. Heck, my two older vid cards sitting in a box in my closet are probably faster than that R7. My laptop with its mobility radeon is probably even faster.

So yea, I completely agree with you…..the OP needs to get a better vid card. If the op has the money, an R9 290 would be a very nice replacement…..I have been looking at upgrading to that one.
