Refund for duplicate dyes - account bound?
OMG I keep seeing this question. Unid dyes will always be sellable regardless if the were ‘refunded’ as people keep saying. Everyone seems to be hung up on the simple terminology of “After the 15th all dyes will be account bound” – this refers to when you USE them the COLOR will be account bound.
Once you identify a dye it will be a color dye, which will still be sellable, once you then USE that color dye it will be an account bound color in your wardrobe.
There are 3 different types of dye: Unidentified, Color variant, and Wardrobe color.
Unidentified and Color variant are sellable.
Wardrobe is account bound because you can’t undo this action.
If you’re looking for a Dev to confirm this, just wait till the 15th and it will be clear, it’s only 2 days. It would be stupid for all dyes to be account bound even after identifying them, there would be no purpose to them on the TP destroying a huge gold sink.
Making unidentified dyes account bound would be a terrible idea, I can’t see Anet ever seriously considering that.

The “refunded” ones may be account bound. Much like the PvP ones currently are.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the refunded ones follow the same. It would be very logical to have them that way.

PvP unidentified dyes are account bound, if I recall correctly

Yep, that’s why I stopped after buying couple of duplicated blue dyes because if it’s unknown then risk is too huge even if rare dyes would double in price and even if I had a refund for all 188 blue dyes it’s uncertain if I get any good rares form acc bound unids.
Not that long ago I had about 250 acc bound dyes from pvp and when I opened it, there wasn’t even black or white dye.
I’d say the risk is pretty high if you expect to sell the UIDs after the patch….however anyone that plans to do this isn’t so smart to begin with as if every player gets an average of 25-100 UIDs that can be sold on the TP tomorrow, the price will dive like a submarine (then it will rebound, but I don’t think it will ever get back to the current level for months).
Of course, there are sure to be some players speculating on the long term (since UIDs will no longer drop) and plan to hold them until the price goes back up, but that could also be a huge gamble as the only real solid market for UIDs after this change will be people forging Bifrost.
If they are account bound, then your only recourse will be to open all of them, potentially fill out your account wide dye pallet and sell the remaining opened dyes…..so ided dye prices will likely take a big dip but that is likely to happen to some extent no if the UIDs are not account bound as many players will use this as an opportunity to fill out their dye pallet anyway.
I see the smart play as doing NOTHING then opening some percentage (or all) of the UIDs you get, fill out your account wide pallet and then go put in some low ball buy orders for colors you lack but have been wanting for a while.

From what I understand only the same dye used across multiple characters is getting refunded as unidentified dye. If you have 188 blue dyes sitting in your bank it wont do you anything.

That’s how I understood it as well.
