Regrown Caladbolg
You can swap between the different weapon types for 1000 unbound magic. You will also need to replace the sigil in the process so that choice isn’t majorly important unless you are going to put in an expensive sigil. Changing the type also lets you choose that stat again. In that regard they are similar to a legendary.
There is that. I’ll just pick something that can be used by most of my other characters, I guess.
And if you care to do so, you can complete the quest again on another alt and gain another weapon. (You will need to craft the crystal and other two pre-requisite items again however, because the ones you get from the achievements are consumed when you make the first weapon). I am currently working on leveling up my crafting so that I can create them on an alt, but going from 400 to 500 is a slow trek… only up to 426 so far…)
FYI the cost of running the quest again is comparable to crafting ascended on your own. The Caladbolg scavanger hunt uses more spiritwood than the traditional method (plus some odds and ends, like Fulgurite, Passion Flower, & Evergreen Lodes); the traditional (except scepter) uses more deldrimor steel (which is a tad cheaper and less likely to be needed by you for other stuff).
As others have pointed out, the biggest advantages of Caladbolg are:
- Can choose any available stats (at any time, for only 1000 unbound magic).
- Can transform to any of the five weapon types (GS, dagger, shield, scepter, sword)
So generally speaking, it’s a good investment unless you’re short on time, fulgurite, or wood (or gold enough to substitute).
Going for one lots of your characters can use is a safe bet, but I’d also recommend narrowing it down to characters you actually want an ascended weapon for.
I have all 9 professions and most weapons are about even in the number of professions which can use them, so technically most the choices were equally good for me. But I don’t play all my characters evenly, so I only considered the characters who regularly play level 80 content and so will get more use from ascended weapons. Which lead to me choosing a sword and a dagger.
