Is it against the rules to make a guild that is oriented to a group of people such as religion, sexual orientation, etc?

No, unless it’s against people or religions. I’ve seen one guild for LGBT people on our server. Might have to be cautious with the guild name though. It would be easy to unintentionally get in trouble with TOS with certain names.

Only problem I can think of is guild name/tag issues over naming. So read the naming restrictions and think carefully upon choosing a name.

Not at all, unless the guild name/tag is derogatory, pornographic or otherwise offensive. I’ve seen LGBT guilds, Christian guilds, furry guilds etc.

How would you manage it? If the guild is doing really well, I’d expect people to lie to get in.

I’d have a preference that people don’t make guilds that don’t allow people in for things that they didn’t choose, but that isn’t something that should, would, or could stop you.

I don’t remember their exact name but there is a Mormon only guild running around.

I don’t think that’s likely to be an issue. There are a lot of guilds in this game, including a lot of big, active successful guilds in both regions which let anyone in and multiple guilds dedicated to playing each aspect of the game.

I can’t imagine anyone feeling like their only option for finding a guild that does well at the activities they’re interested in is to lie and join a ‘special interest’ guild for people with specific religion beliefs or sexual orientation or whatever.

Especially because those types of guilds tend to be quite casual in general.

There are (for example) christians who are also hardcore WvW players, but it’s unlikely there are enough people who want to be in a dedicated christian guild and are hardcore WvW players and are on the same server for it to reach a point where the server’s leading WvW guild is also exclusively for christians and other dedicated players have to lie to join it or miss out.

(Although a christian WvW guild could have some really cool, ‘avenging angels’ themes. They could all use white and gold armor and seraph weapons.)

Nah, Chaos Weapons would be the way to go for them. That + all Radiant armor.

There’s at least a couple of Christian guilds I’ve seen promoting lately. There are quite a few lifestyle and belief-based groups in the game, as well as groups for almost any kind of niche you could imagine.
