Remember! Revive, Revive, and Revive some more.
They will learn when they hit 30 and do AC…
they will learn of fail
Heck, revive downed NPCs if you have nothing better to do. As you say, more things for the mobs to get distracted by.
In the open world I’ll tend to leave whatever I’m doing to find and revive downed or defeated players.
Humming to myself as I walk to a vista on the map
See a downed player icon clearly in the other direction
Perform about face and start heading to character
Usually a downed or defeated person will mean a fun fight I can join!
Is it bad I have a mental list of players that ran past me while I was downed and make a mental note to never revive them if I see them again? Because I do
I haven’t noticed very many unfriendly players so far. The only time I saw people refuse to revive others was during the Fire Elemental boss. But I could understand why. The room was just so chaotic that if you stopped to revive someone you were guaranteed to be downed yourself.
But aside from that, you also get exp for revives! So there really aren’t many reasons NOT to be helpful.

I’ll save you!
player disappears as I turn the corner
Nooo!!!! I wanted the XP!
Yeah I see what you mean! But I haven’t seen it on my server to be honest!
but +1 for those who don’t!
I always revive anyone I see, however there are a few exceptions. For example, the people who die fighting the fire elemental world boss in Metrica Province. If anyone tries to revive you, they will die as well. There is a waypoint right next to the reactor. It is far more beneficial for those people to run back to the fight. If people did that instead of laying there waiting for a rez, which then kills another player, the fight would not take nearly as long.
I try to revive whenever possible. First for the xp but also in the hopes that the revived will return the favor heh. My experience so far has been a good one. (Only been playing a few days)
I actually revived a player to 99%.
I couldn’t bring myself to actually finish tho….
His name was Buttmuncher. I JUST COULDN’T DO IT!!!!!!!!
But seriously, I revive in the middle of combat, running around exploring, and anywhere I see a V on the map. Of course, alot of the time they port to a waypoint JUST as I get close. So annoying.
I always revive people as I played DAoC as my first MMORPG and it was a pain to die and leave a tombstone. People even yelled for help as you lost a bit of exp as well when you died.
i always try to revive during battle, but that never truns out well, so i usually have to revive after the battle or try to rally them
A couple of revive stories.
First the bad. Very quickly after launch (didn’t have the problem in headstart or beta) I took a Charr to the human area. Whenever he happened to get downed… no one would stop and revive him. Guess the humans didn’t like the Charr, but it was sort of annoying at the time.
The good story is a bit more fun. My wife and I (and many other players) ran up to get a skill point. As we were all leaving, the last person out got trapped and killed when all the mobs in the area respawned… including a veteran. My wife and I turned around and started clearing the room to revive the player, no one left behind after all. As this was happening, another player ran in to go to the skill point, bringing another 5 mobs with him, which now were on us as we were clearing the room.
We eventually clear the room, and revived the player and got out. We got a nice thank you from that player, and that was quite rewarding. The amusing part was afterwards, that player that trailed the mobs in on us was laying dead outside… which we then revived him
Bottom line… I am looking forward to the Combat Medic title
At least say thank you if some one revives you, this is proper reviving etiquette, remember some one is taking the time to help you. Id say 1/10 people just get up and walk off like with out a word like it was my duty just to revive them.
People not realize you can res yourself? Just as long as your not taking to much damage button 4 healing will usually offset any damage and you can revive yourself
Only occasionally have I seen players run by without help someone who is down. During one Swanir’s Dome event, so many people rushed to help each other that several times I actually saw a message that said “there are too many players attempting to revive…”. I had to laugh because in some games I’ve played, that would NEVER happen.

I love the revive ability of this game: one of GW2’s many fun innovations. I try to say thanks when I’m revved, but in combat it’s sometimes difficult to get it typed out — I revive every chance I see.

I revive every chance I get. Whether that person is right next to me or all the way across my mini map, you better believe I’m going to do my best to get to them. Even in WvW if I see someone dead behind enemy lines, I’ll often try and sneak behind the mass of enemies to get to that person. If anyone in the vicinity calls out for a rez, I’m there. I have no idea why, but I love reviving people. Not for the minuscule xp you get from it. There is just something about helping them out. haha

The rule for me is, revive downed players at any cost but getting downed myself, but leave defeated players alone till the fight is over.
Getting up defeated players in nasty fights takes way to long, and does more harm than good. To see 5 people dieing in a AoE of a boss, trying to revive a defeated player forever hurts just as much as seeing people “bleeding out” while people stay right next to them in a good position without the fear of aggro, doing nothing but autoattacking.

The distinction between downed and defeated is indeed very important. I wouldn’t go as far though that your rule is the best in every case, but it often is.
When your in ascalon catacombs for instance which is the first dungeon at level 30, you pretty much have to revive the Downed players, yet once you go from downed to dead then you pretty much have to respawn and run back as fast as your lil legs can carry you
So in most cases i also aggree with asum.
I also agree its a little annoying when you doint get a nice thanks for reviving someone or your downed and a player jus watches you die while they mine the node u got downed trying to get to lol..
Tis only what you can do for all
Not sure I could have revived “Buttmuncher” either, Finny.
But, yeah…except if reviving is going to get too many killed in a heated battle. Seen that happen quit a bit if your are fighting with a smaller group than normal. Someone has to keep up the fight….everyone can’t revive, lol.

Me too! I’ll cross oceans and climb mountains to revive others. It’s a real letdown when I can’t get there in time. :P
Especially in WvW… I mean, the spawn point is so far :S
I will revive people. I will not risk myself too much if they are under heavy fire. No point in downing myself trying to revive others.
Also try to revive them as soon as you can. Reviving a downed player is pretty quick. Reviving a defeated player… That takes a long time :S
Reviving is one of my favorite things to do in this game! Most folks offer a kind thank you and appreciation for it, so far. I’ve been known to get myself wiped in attempt to revive other folks. It’s the thought that counts, right?
I haven’t gotten there yet, but I heard there are traits that actually help support you and the other player when reviving. Which I think is an awesome idea!
I revive whenever possible. If I can’t, I’ll atleast throw them a heal, protective boon, or snare enemy so the player has better odds of reviving himself.
Best of all has got to be to give Stealth. I do it for him, or to both of us if I’m reviving them. It’s pretty much guaranteed they’ll rally.
I make it my personal motto to never let anyone become Defeated. Getting downed is okay, it’s part of fighting.
A lot of people think it’s OK to let your allies get Defeated. It’s not. If they get defeated, chances is you’re not doing your job in fighting with those around you.
Everyone should place a heal or a protective boon immediately on someone who becomes downed. This should make them rally right away.
Yes, sometimes it’s better to finish off an enemy, since the downed player will rally, but a lot of times that won’t work because the Downed player was targeting another enemy…
I personally never say Thank You and I also don’t expect it. If anything, I get a little angry when people tell me Thank You. It’s my job as a player, why are you thanking me? You didn’t thank me when I killed a monster, did you? Of-course not, because that’s my job!
