How long should I wait before replacing gear? I’m mainly concerned about cost/effect while leveling. I like WvW, and play a Mezzmer.

I never bother. I just replace my gear with whatever I get as loot.

Depends on how much you are dying/what class you are. As a warrior playing melee I’ll start feeling it after 5 levels. If I go ranged I can get away with 10 levels before I feel the pain. On my ranger I can go 20 levels…

I’ve only used armor I’ve found or crafted. From time to time, I picked up a piece that was a major upgrade from a karma vendor, but I’ve never gone out of my way to acquire an upgrade.

Most of the karma-purchased gear was weapons—I am an armorsmith/jeweler, so weapons were the only parts I needed to craft.

Crafting, you’ll have an upgrade every 5-10 levels.

Yeah, I never go out of my way to replace gear. If I find something better as a drop then I’ll pick it up, or if I happen to come across a better karma item that’s significantly better then my current stuff.

So I shouldn’t save up all my karma for endgame items?

I replace a piece if it gets 15-20 behind, but otherwise I just use what I find.

I just stick to Tasks, Events, and my Quests while leveling a character so gear isn’t all that important. I’ll only jump in WvW a couple nights a week during scheduled events for my guild(s).
