As the title says, reporting for insults, does it actually do anything?

If Support determines it was actual verbal abuse, they might get a temp ban of some sort. Not reporting the insulting person is absolutely guaranteed to do nothing…

I’d say attaching a screenshot of the conversation in the chat window is much more likely to get some action.

I’ve seen posts in the Account issues forum where people protest getting a 72 hour suspension for abusive language. They were shocked and outraged, some are very profane over how they are being treated. Others lie and claim they didn’t say anything. Those are the most amusing ones as Gaile will come onto the thread and set the record straight. There was one thread posted by a friend of a person whose account was banned because of repeated episodes of abusive language.

So yes, abusive language can get you punished. It’s 72 hours for the first offense. Each succeeding offense gets a longer suspension all the way up to a ban.

Before that, though, I strongly urge you to simply ‘block’ the person. That solves 99.9% of the ‘verbal abuse’. I guarantee it. There is also a chat filter, so use that, too. That deals with the remaining .09% of the ‘verbal abuse’.

IF they actively go out of their way to continue this abuse somehow even after you block them, THEN by all means take screenshots and report them.

Yet a couple of days ago, I happened to run AC. Joined a team which claimed path 2-3, intending to run both paths, of course. Though, running path 2 I realized I didn’t like those people, one of them mainly, being extremely annoying, so I left the party after the path was done, having no intention to bear said person for 1 more path.
After a few moments I receive a whisper from said person, calling me a r**ard, (Said word without any kind of “censoring attemp”) who can’t read. I reported and blocked, and I noticed he was not temporary banned nor anything…
has it do do with the fact that what he said was not a verbal abuse?

One is the time element. Support gets literally thousands of reports every day for all sorts of stuff. Each report goes to the bottom of the stack and moves up as reports above it are worked on and cleared. So, it does take a while and 2 days is probably too soon.

The other is severity of offense. There is bound to be a threshold but no one knows what it is or if certain remarks cross it. Even if he disappears for a few days you won’t know if it’s your report, someone else’s report or he is simply not playing.

All you can do is block, report and move on.

My advice is, don’t put yourself in situations where this toxic attitude is prevelent. It sound like you we’re, most likely, doing a dungeon path with limited restrictions. Adhere to the ‘Lfg requests’ or start your own. If you are within these parameters: report, block, and kick the person. It takes quite a bit of effort to herass someone past these blocks and, at this point, the momentum is in your direction. Screenshots and an explanation will almost guarentee in, at least, a 72 hour ban. MAKE SURE that you’re adhering to LFG and the ones you post are concise and clear. Otherwise, you have no case.

I know it seems weird, BUT, reporting is a sort of synonomous with GW2 Small Claims Court, as strange as that may be.

Outside of this, find a solid Guild that you feel apart of and these kind of problems will, quickly, be reguarded as a thing of the past.

I was recently infraction warned and my post deleted in a thread almost exactly like this one. I’ll try a different approach this time: be more specific in your post and there’s a lot of activity going on behind that curtian you’re asking questions about. Mainly that curtian has levels.

For example: Everyone, due to your lack of information to the question, is assuming at least one person is insulting you. I’ll take a different approach since you didn’t post any information about attacks to yourself that perhaps you got angry and insulted someone else and they claimed to have reported you. Not saying it’s true but there is zero information saying otherwise so, yea.

Okay, so you/that person is reported for being a potential meanie, ANet reviews the chat logs and decides the severity of the offense. If no other complaints were lodged against said person and logs weren’t a ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ personality obviously so far off their rocker they were orbiting Pluto screaming it indeed was a planet and vowing to do horrible acts of dismemberment to anyone that disagreed..Umm well yea, if not ‘that guy’ then first time offense is just a private warning.

Beyond that, not sure, only got one warning so far. And Pluto is a planet, science is wrong.

I think there is also an options check box to turn on a swear filter for the chat window….or am I crazy?
