[Request] Know the amount of data to download
The game downloads the difference between what you have and what is currently available. It doesn’t know the exact size of the files until they’re requested, so in order to implement this, they’d have to first query the headers for each file. It’s certainly possible and easy to do, but it’s not important enough to double the amount of queries required. The size of the raw files is known ahead of time however, so it is possible to guesstimate it, but it will be very inaccurate.
If you’d like to see a sample of this, you can try my alternative patcher, which is intended for people who can’t afford the bandwidth and allows downloading patches anywhere without needing the game.

ANet’s commented on this in the past — they have no plans to implement it. It increases the complexity of their efforts without providing a predictable, solid benefit to enough players.
The OP’s best bet is to check out the English-language wiki’s update page (always linked from the wiki’s home page) — that will show the approximate size for the English client, assuming you had all previous updates (if not, you’d have to manually add up the previous file sizes).
The sizes will be different if you’ve selected multiple languages (more files to DL) or something other than English
Really? On what specific page could I find that information? I can’t find it on ‘Game Updates’. It would be very helpful.
In one of two of the AMAs they’ve done on Reddit; I don’t remember them making the same comment here, though.

Ok, but I can’t find any information on the ‘Game Updates’ page in the Wiki. Did you mean some other page?

hmmm, I’m not seeing this information on the wiki page you mentioned, which makes me even more curious about it because I don’t remember seeing it any other time either.
am I looking at the right page? https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates

Oh, I apologize. I forgot that there’s been this longstanding discussion (argument?) on the wiki about whether any information about build size should be included. Some people think it should be, for folks like the OP who are on a bandwidth budget. Some think it shouldn’t be, because it’s inherently inaccurate (for reasons stated above).
I didn’t stop to check if the numbers were still there or not, so again, my apologies for confusing y’all.
Some folks usually do put up a number on reddit, for what it’s worth.

As with my previous topic, there is always someone who has something to say, but that does not really have a real utility to solve the problem.
I paid the game, so “enough” is not a motivation to not implement a useful function required by a customer who has paid base game and expansion.
One very important thing I did not say in my previous topic, my experience comes from another online game that I can not point to in the matter of occult advertising.
The game in question is a direct opponent of Guild Wars 2, which is new (you do not try to guess), where the game’s basic file is divided into several parts and above all is displayed the exact amount of files to be downloaded and the download start manually pressing a button.
Your blah, blah, blah, me really do import a lot, especially because is really simple to implement in the client who is definitely already prepared to see the amount of data rather than the files to download.
Of course, you are not the game developers and your hypotheses are of no importance for solve the request.
Sorry for the hardness of the message, but lazy people get me on my nerves.
…and where is the EXE file for your GW2Patcher ??
