Hi all,

I’m having an issue with a someone harassing me (both irl and in-game) and was wondering what the blocking behaviour is in GW2?

I have looked through the forums and wiki and have only been able to find some clear answers to my questions, but not all! I would love some help.

1. Will blocking someone make me appear offline on their friends list? I have been setting my status as invisible to stop them from following me everywhere, however I don’t want to have to do this forever because I do want my other friends and guildies to see when I’m online.

2. Will they be able to see my character in-game?

I believe blocking someone does render you ‘offline’, but they will be able to see your character in-game.

You should absolutely report harassment to Support:

Give them times, screenshots, and quotes (or other examples). They will investigate & take appropriate action, although they might not able to tell you anything more than the investigation was completed.

That’s not what I’m asking. I know they cannot mail, chat or whisper me.

If you actually read my post, I just wanted to know further information such as what they can and cannot see from their end

Thank you for the advice! Seems to be all good since blocking them, hopefully this is the end of it and I wont have to bother support. However, if it does start happening again I have more than enough mail from the person to send through to support.

Jeez, sounds like you got a real loser on your hands. Might be worth documenting everything like Illconceived suggested, in case anything escalates.

Since they are doing this in real life as well as in game, you need to take a few additional steps to protect yourself.
1. You need to notify law enforcement NOW. INSIST that a report be made – them acting on the report isn’t necessary, but your filing the report IS.
2. You need to notify support NOW.
3. You need off-line copies of your documentation of the harassment. Whether that is screenshots, printed copies of e-mails, etc. You need that documentation, and you need it somewhere off-line and NOT on your computer. I’d suggest a USB drive that you place in your sock drawer, or a bank safety deposit box. The reason for off-line is that accounts can be hacked, computers can be stolen, and computers can also be seized by law-enforcement for discovery and you could be out of luck if you don’t have a copy elsewhere.

Don’t wait, this isn’t about getting someone in trouble, this IS about protecting yourself and creating a paper trail that can be used as evidence. In my experience, harasser’s will tend to be in one of two categories: a) the oblivious idiot that is just “joking” around and will actually stop if you slap them hard enough with a clue-by-four, or b) the dangerous kind that will only escalate.

Unfortunately, you have to smack them with that clue-by-four before you can determine which category they fit into, so you have to start setting up your protection with the worst-case scenario in mind from the get go.

+1 to the above post. It is unfortunate you will be have to be proactive, but this could end up dangerous.

Blocking someone does NOT hide you from them. It is in fact, a better stalking tool than adding someone because you have no idea they are tracking you. Personally I think that’s ridiculous. You can try blocking me, and see what map I’m on if I’m online. The only way to do it is to go invisible, but that impairs stuff like guild chat. They can still find you in game but much harder if they don’t know the map.
