I am unaware if a post is already within the thread.
I am a returning player since launch. Is this game able to pickup-and-get-into? Or will I be totally lost, and have to opt into buying some stupid guide to catch up or something?
I left for Defiance,firefall,Rift,eq,eq2
no way WWC. And I am interested in GW2 again. ALOT has changed. I am a level 28 or so char warrior I believe.
Your my only hope!

This game is totally pick-upable. It is true that you’ll have to familiarize yourself with some of the new changes that are released, but that’ll be no problem. Due to the way mechanics are set up, your progress will never loose its value. I say give it a try.

Oh, and welcome back

One thing to keep in mind is that content marked with a yellow star (bookmarked on the top-right of your screen, but also some NPCs that are marked on your map) is the so-called Living Story content, which is the current two-week-long event. Some of it is temporary, some of it is permanent. Feel free to ignore it, or jump right into it. (There has just been a new release this past Tuesday, involving hot air balloons and Divinity’s Reach.)

If you are not level 80 yet (and I see you say you have a level 28 character), I would advise you to just find a suitable explorable area and work your way through that, and continue with your personal story. (You can read back what the story so far has been by pressing H, and finding the “My Story” tab.) This should refamiliarize you with your character and what it can do.

Or you could just decide to start fresh, and make a new character from level 1. In that case, I would recommend choosing a different race and profession from your former main character, for the full fresh experience.

Try to get into the Living Story sooner rather than later (but after you finish starter zones) since Living Story content is temporary and will go away. Personal Story will always be there for you to complete and some people get to level 80 and never do personal story.

And most of this game is so easy there’s no way you will need a strategy guide except for the hardest of dungeons.

There is http://gw2dungeons.net/ for that.
