Hey Guys,

Returning player here, haven’t played since right before the end of LS 1 Lions’ Arch decimation (sad I missed it, actually) but LS2 has me intrigued and excited, though I’m starting pretty much over from scratch with a new character. Questions are by the time that I level to 80 and work on crafting and whatever else I can do/afford while trying to catch up to the LS (was at least smart enough to log in and unlock this seasons episodes so far) is it going to be too much of a slog and not worth getting back into? Will I be behind or can you really be ‘behind’ much in this game that doesn’t really have any gear creep? (save for cosmetic stuff that may or may not be obtainable anymore and the grind up to ascended gear?)

Playing some other games reminded me of my joy for this one, even though it never initially grabbed me the same way the original guild wars did, I’m excited to see where they take it and hope like others to continue seeing more areas and things that we all remember from the original game that made it awesome. Any tips for good easy leveling and getting geared up to catch up on the content?

You’ll be fine, just don’t expect to be able to solo everything…

The LS this year works differently than before, the story really being moved in the instances, so since you have unlocked the episodes I don’t think you’ll be penalized in any way for doing it later – the story’ll be the same, the instances shouldn’t have moved, etc.

For fast leveling, Edge of the Mists is probably a safe bet if you get on an active map.

Definitely not worried about soloing everything, though I don’t remember things being too tough on the way to 80 anyways prior, though I know some things have changed. I’ll keep an eye out on the edge of the mists as well and see how that works out. Is there any benefit to doing EotM compared to the regular WvW maps?

EotM doesn’t count for points so it tends to be much more straightforward karma/exp farming than normal WvW that also does defense and stuff.

Don’t worry about getting behind on gear. There haven’t been any new tiers introduced since ascended and there’s unlikely to be any more soon. And as you may know you don’t actually needed ascended unless you’re doing high level Fractals. Get to 80 and get a set of exotics and you’re pretty much equal with everyone else.

As far as I can tell from what we’ve seen so far you don’t need to worry about getting behind on the Living Story stuff either. Everything so far has been permanent – the story and achievements, the ability to get new skins and items, the new map, everything is sticking around.

There is a possibility that later on there will be trouble with things like having enough people to get Dry Top to Tier 4 or 5, but it doesn’t actually take many people if you’re coordinated and Anet could adjust it if necessary.
