Q:

Hello everyone! So, I’d label myself sort of a veteran. I’ve been on the GW2 bandwagon since news of it came out, I’ve played the betas, pre-purchased, so I understand the game mechanics and the lore and all that. I have two level 80s, one is a “healer” guardian, and the other is a berserker mesmer. I’ve been off GW2 for maybe the last 4 months or so, however. I want to come back, and I want to start something new. Maybe a human or a sylvari because I really enjoy their personal story, their aesthetics, and I like to roleplay with those races the most, particularly human.

With the new proposed class, I want to be able to be “viable” in end-game pve as either support or damage, preferably a mix of both. But I also want to be able to just hop in pvp and not feel kitten.

The classes I’ve been musing about playing are Necromancer, Elementalist, and maybe Thief. I might pick up where I left off on my Mesmer, though. On a secondary note, I’m also wondering about crafting and which crafts seem to be doing best right now as far as money making goes, if any.

So to recap, I’d like opinions for the above mentioned professions on:

1) End-game PVE
2) World vs World PVP / Structured PVP
3) Survivability as far as solo-play/farming/leveling goes

And 4) Crafting

A:

Necro in end-game PVE : Berzerker or Cleric, both are viable, but Cleric is THE heal, you heal way more than Guardian, but you only have blind and protection to mitigate damage whereas Guardian that have more mitigation system.

Necro in WvW : You can play Dire, you are very good at tagging people, very useful in bus fight and you are very often the last man standing.

Necro in sPvP : You can be a very good Bunker but also a very good anti-bunker, depends on your will.

Necro in solo-play : You are the most resistant thing a mob can think of, thanks to your F1 and very high base hp pool. You can use pet to serve as decoy and use your wells to AoE kill.
As for farming, you usually farm in bus, so individual skill are more or less none sense, but as said before, you are hard to kill.
Leveling is actually quite easy to level everything nowadays with the Queensdale champ farm or if you are in an active WvW server, WvW.

If you mean ascended crafting, it’s the same kitten for every one, at least 190g if you start from nothing plus ~80g for the weapon itself. Armor are unknown yet.

I don’t know about the other profession.

Welcome back to GW2
Let me recapture some things for you or my opinion on certain things you mentioned.

1) If you plan on spending your life in instances like many of us veterans do lately, Mesmer, Ele or Warrior are the classes that always able to get a group (if you using the lfg tool and not going with your friends or guild) I would recommend taking a look at the different builds since some updates have been made. Some skills are supposed to be more “balancing” while others are just not worth using anymore lol.

2)I don’t know about WvW/structured PvP at the moment. I don’t bother anymore since my server is really bad at it and don’t plan on reading the drama in chat. Some people enjoy it.

3)Solo : Necromancer or Thief . If you know what you’re doing and not planning on making a warrior. I wouldn’t recommend using an Ele for solo or farming purposes, even tho it is possible, it’s slower compared to the other classes mentioned above and in more crowded areas you will have a hard time surviving. Maybe with upcoming patches that changes but at the current state not recommended. A lot of things have changed in the game and at the moment there is not much of “farming” anymore. A lot of people, when not going into the instances run the so called champ trains. If you plan on doing that, then the class itself wont matter.

4) None of the crafting professions are profitable. I don’t speak about 1 silver here or there, I mean profitable. Exception if you have “limited edition” or harder to get recipes (most of the veterans do) Than I do agree it’s very profitable. Take a look at http://www.gw2spidy.com/ I think that page gives you a good explanation of the current market and economy.

@The Sixteenth- That’s a really informative post, thank you! I think I’ll be rolling Necro! Before you posted I was definitely already thinking about it but now I just have even more reason to do it. I just have a quick question.

I forgot what the term bus meant.
