Q:
Returning player
A:
End game content is still mostly the same as it was, with a couple of exceptions.
There is a very good Tequatl battle that requires lots of people and lots of organization, that a lot of people hate because it’s most often failed. But it’s a good fight. There’s also a new dungeon path of Twilight Arbor that replaced the TA F/U path, that’s challenging.
Challenging content comes in waves…including the Queen’s Gauntlet, which you missed but devs say it will make periodic reappearances.
And no one knows how hard the new dungeon will be starting next week.|
Oh, and there’s ascended weapons if you want to grind for them now. And of course higher level fractals.
And WvW if you like that sort of thing, which is the end game for many. That’s had many changes too.
Here’s a great video that shows what changes you’ll see right away (applies to everyone)

Watched the first video, got a basic grasp of the newly added systems.
What about end-game content? Anything I missed out on, or is it possible to still acquire them?
Where or what should I start with? Last time I was playing it was either FotM or precursor hunting, any new exciting end-game content or new ways to acquire precursors?
You missed some Living Story – like the vote for the new captains councilmember. You can’t do it now since the players already voted and that content is completed now so it would make no sense for you to do it at this point.
Check the release splash page link I gave you, there’s a lot of transitional living story type stuff that you can’t do now including some stuff that will return periodically but they’ve added a lot also. Jump on in, the water is fine
Gear wise I have full Exotic and a pair of ascended rings and back. Other accessories are either green or yellow. Is there any new ascended gears to acquire?
(Besides weapons, heard they’re hard to craft with same stats as legendaries)
Since end game is very much similar to when I left, is there any appeal to revisit the game at all? All I did at that time was either running dungeons with friends and doing world events for a chance at precursor.
Just logged in and not many of the people I know still play this, is there any new dungeons or ways to acquire precursors now, or am I just looking at the same few dungeons in the past with seasonal events?
From the sound of this, this is probably a poor game choice for you, to be honest. You want dungeons and end game. This game wasn’t really designed around dungeons and end game and in fact, was promoted as a game without a standard end game.
People play games for all different reasons. Dungeons were never going to be the mainstay of this game, or the focus. There are no raids. The open world was always supposed to be the focus and people who prefer open world content will probably tend to like this game more than people who are just waiting for the next new dungeon to come out.
TBH, I was once really addicted to GW2.
Was running FotM, dungeons and dailies like clockwork, right up until it became a chore to clear dailies and run FotM for the 15/20/25 ++ chest rewards, taking up long periods of my free time.
Was wondering if anything has changed since then, new dungeons, areas (like Southsun Cove) that might reinvigorate my interest.
Since I’ve already gotten 100% completion on more than 1 character, there really isn’t any open world content to look forward to unless new areas have been added.
Things that have changed.
Ascended weapons introduced through crafting but are almost meaningless outside of fractals. Rocking exotic weapons vs ascended doesn’t have a noticeable difference in damage unless you look very closely.
Achievements now offer rewards. Most of the luster from them has worn off.
Living Story content comes and goes and has nothing truly memorable about it. New weapon skins are added but most require gambling with black lion keys. Some of other skins are poorly done and added as the reward for doing the LS achievements, also you get weird home instance nodes for skill points, candy corn and charged quartz(new material).
Legendaries have more effects. Some like them, some don’t. Most of the hate comes from the changes to Meteorlogicus.
Balance updates.
Ranger getting better slowly.
Warrior is still a beast.
Guardian is getting better trait wise.
Elementalist is in limbo.
Thief has been nerfed into the ground
Engineer is getting better but at a slower pace than the ranger.
Necromancer is a god in PvP, not so much in PvE
Mesmer has gotten nerfed(clones/confusion) but still holding on through endlessly useful utilities.
These are off the top of my head… oh and culling is no more.
The focus of the game seems to have shifted from typical end game content of my MMOs to the acquisition of achievements and achievement points. I’m guessing if that doesn’t interest you, you’ll end up leaving again.
It’s still worth logging in just for the new path of TA and maybe the new dungeon coming out next Tuesday…and the Tequatl fight if you care to join an organized force. That’s pretty cool too.
I appreciate the detailed explanation and offer but I just logged in for nostalgia’s sake and the skills/controls seems so alien to me. Don’t think any PUG would appreciate walking through an old timer. Guess it’s time to hang up this game and waste my time on another. Appreciate the help though, thanks for taking time off explaining.
You could always join a casual guild. There are tons of guilds that like helping people out and showing them the ropes.
