Hi,

I bought GW2 on launch day, played it for about a month but the amount of bots killed the game for me and I quit to play another online game.

Now, months later I’m considering playing again but I have one question.

Does the game still lower your level when you are say level 30 and enter a level 5 zone?
That annoyed me as in like wow I used to love soloing low level dungeons with a high level character.

did they patch it out or is it still like that?

Yes its still there, and will probably always be there. You still get the feeling of being Over Powered due to traits and all the stats from exotics/ascended items even though your scaled down. Dungeons typically still require 5 people.

It’s still there and extremely unlikely to change any time soon. IMO the fact that it keeps the entire game as viable content at level 80 is much better than being able to one-shot enemies in low level zones but being unable to find any challenge in most of the game.

On the upside the number of bots (and gold selling messages) has gone down dramatically. They’re still there of course but nothing like it was in the early days.

Just for the record, it is possible to solo dungeons if you have the skill and a reasonable build.

If what you enjoy is being godly, then GW2 might not ever be the right game for you- here, what matters isn’t your level or gear, but your skill and your knowledge of your class.

Yeah it downlevels you but you will still one and 2 shot most anything in the low level zones. You definitely overpower everything and run 0 risk of death even versus many many many many mobs. A lot of the lower level mobs are balanced such that they expect a proper level character there to have bad/missing gear, no traits, no runes/sigils, and few weapons skills / utility skills. So they are very weak.

So while it does “downlevel” you, you wouldn’t really know it from playing. Dungeons are balanced differently, expecting you to have good gear above the level of the dungeon cap.

And higher level players farming low level events definitely ruin it for the lowbies that are actually trying to get credit for it. So if you’re into that, GW2 is your game!
