Returning player. Advice would be nice.
Not sure about the leveling side as it has changed since I last leveled a character to 80. Do some research on NPE – new player experience.
As for gold. Found playing world vs world on a regular basis is/was a great way to increase gold levels. Same can be said for crafting. Farming & selling T6 mats is another way, although you need to be level 80.
Selling rare items, exotic items & even precursors if you are fortunate to get one you don’t need (or get one at all).
The Halloween event was great for creating income. You could sell ToT bags, candy corn cobs & so forth.
Breaking down items to their base components can be yet another way to generate income. 250 silk scraps might net you 8 gold or there about. Certain ingredients you can gather can also give nice amounts of gold, when you let them stack up to lots of 250.

For gold and levelling: do everything johnny says above. If it’s a yellow (rare) item, sell it on the trading post straight up. If it’s anything less than yellow, salvage it and sell the materials for more coin. If it’s exotic, equip it
Also, go to Edge of the Mists (EOTM) which is a new psuedo-WvW map and find the commander’s tag and his/her zerg and follow it. This is a fantastic way to level up, get loot, and earn karma. Players will throw down banners at your home area for even faster levelling/karma gain.
A lot has changed since you last played. This page is a good place to start if you want to read about the changes: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Releases
For game mechanics the Feature Packs are the main ones, since those were all updates to existing stuff.
For story Living World Season 2 is the most relevant since that’s all permanent, but you may want to read through what happened in Season 1 (or find a video on Youtube) as well. Some of that lead to permanent changes too, for example the new dungeon path in Twilight Arbor, destruction of Lion’s Arch and new events and scenery changes in Kessex Hills.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Actually if the lvl 40 and lvl 20 characters are your only ones, my primary advice would be to forget about gold and leveling for now and just go ahead and play. There is a multitude of things to explore and experience in this game, and you will actually rob yourself of a considerable part of the fun in this game if you go and “power-level” in EotM or whatever other train-of-the-week is suggested.
Levels come naturally if you just go out and explore the world. In fact, my most recent characters to 80 (I’ve got 11 or 12 there by now) all were leveled simply by map exploration, uncovering waypoints, points of interest, hearts, etc., doing whatever events I stumbled upon in the process, gathering resources I came across, and none of the characters was beyond 35% world exploration by the time they hit 80.
You will also get a good start on hoarding gold and karma this way, especially if you gather all the resources you come across and sell them on the trading post, since lower level ores, logs etc. often sell for as much if not more coin than high level ones, since all are needed in endlevel crafting.
I wouldn’t really worry about farming gold all that much (if at all) until you are comfortably at level 80, have unlocked all the traits you are interested in (another point pro leveling by exploration, since you’ll get a variety of traits unlocked on the way), and have a good idea of what part(s) of the game you would like to keep playing. Most areas of play will give you plenty of gold and/or other currencies to get all the equipment and consumables you need to enjoy playing, its mostly fluff and nice-to-haves (like specific skins) that may cost more money than you can comfortably come up with.
My advices :
- Level your toons, the majority of the new and interesting content is for level 80
- Finish your personnal story, then play the living story season 2. You might got lost in the process. If you don’t understand what is going on, check the wiki.
- Take some time to discover your wardrobe and the collection achievements. If you are a collecting person, your chance to shine is now.
- If you plan to get started with dungeons, find a guild that will guide you in your first steps, and do not hesitate to read guides out there. The meta is now firmly in place and deviance from it is not really appreciated by some.
If it’s anything less than yellow, salvage it and sell the materials for more coin.
This is usually a money loss, IMO.
OP here. So i’ve been playing a few days and reached level 51 on My elementalist who was 45. God i forgot how much i loved the customization and art style of the game compared to World of Warcraft.
Decided to take a break from leveling/exploring to work on crafting when i randomly remembered about Town Clothes. Went through the wiki and learned i had to change them to Wardrobe items. Yay for getting my Rare Dragon Emblem shirt i won back the boots in this are the same as the boots from my original town clothes too bad i can’t change the color to match with the shirt and shorts given with the transformation. http://puu.sh/cHdqL/844bd336c3.jpg
Trait system is way different than i remember i only have 4 points rather than the 10 or so i had before.
My personal story doesn’t continue til 60, so it’ll be a bit before i can get to that.
I did that one manor dungeon once before, and another one that was just 10 levels higher than that i think, before i stopped playing. i might try to see if i can get intoa group for these again
Oh i also found this Queen Jennah miniature in my mail. Guess i did that event enough to get it. Yay i have 1 miniature to my name
All in all i’m happy i can finally play again
