Q:

Hi everyone, hoping you all might be able to help me out I’m a returning player, starting with all new lvl 1 characters. My goal here is to hopefully keep me interested long enough until Wildstar/Elder Scrolls Online comes out.

So I’m going for map completion, exploration, farming materials to sell, dynamic events, even possibly taking on some Champions by myself. Not to sure if I will be bothering with dungeons this time around. Diffidently not doing any thing PvP lol

Does anyone have any suggestion on which class might fit what I want to do better? I was kinda leaning towards a Necro Minion Master or maybe a Beastmastery Ranger? Is there another class that might fit the bill better?

Thanks to everyone for any help or advice given!

Thief would be good at all but the Champions part. If you’re alone and there’s a Champion, the Thief’s best skill is to run the heck away (in my opinion — some Thief players might well be much better at it than me).

Guardian has a ton of survivability, not so much aoe to get at the DE’s, but might give you a solid feel.

I have avoided minions on my Necro and my Ranger’s barely in the 20’s so I can’t really weigh in on those.

Hmmmm, the first counter question I would ask is why did you leave??
Without knowing the answer I assume you had some trouble keeping up or got bored??

If you got bored and if your not planning to stick around pick the class you think is the hardest and challenge yourself to master it.

If you had trouble keeping up pick a very easy class to pass the time and feel more succesfull.

Rangers always rely on the pets (though control over them in dungeons is important).

Necro-minions are great cannon-folder but you cant control them at all.

Best example is again a dungeon. A necro was using the Summon Blood Fiend as healing skill in a dungeon. The healing of this minion is very good, but your trusting your health into a npc that is programmed and might very likely do what you wouldnt do.

Do your not interested in dungeons I’m showing the major problem with minions. After they got summoned you dont have control over them. You can make them explode or use 1 skill but mostly they go their own way. necromancers can be awesome but not just as minion masters.

Considering your goal (bridging the time to a new game) My first reaction would be ranger. But I’m stuborn andhope I might susprise you. Try the guardian. No solid reason at all, just reading your post I have a feeling you will love it and maybe even forget about those other games.

(to take it more solid in what im saying, both a minion master and a beastmaster like to be in control. a good guardian can lead the party and be vital for the suvivability of the party, so without being disrespectfull you get the best kind of minions you can support: real people!! they are truly much much better then programmed NPC’s and if yoe get good enough to earn their trust they might follow you to the end of the earth

Arise, ye farmers of all nations
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

My reason for leaving in the first place was a lil bit of a few things. I was getting slightly bored because my friends had left to go back to WoW and then eventually draged me back lol . I’m also not that great of a player and I’m scared of being hit (always played ranged mainly healer) so I wouldn’t really know where to start with a Guardian lol

Oh, well, in WoW I mained range only (Mage and Priest mostly). I thought I’d never want to play a Guardian because I couldn’t stand Paladin game play — I was so wrong! Mine is sturdy, protected, and this rose has thorns baby! Armored, hurling blue fire, putting up wards and shields like crazy, she is my dungeon preference. Most of the weapons were too slow for me until I settled on scepter/focus with some sword/shield for variety.

Also fun to RP but that’s separate from the profession

Thanks guys I think I will be going with the Guardian! Now I have another problem though lol. I’ve been looking a site calculator and feel sorta overwhelmed with the choices in awesome weapons and which build to even go with! Not to mention I’ll later to have to choose gear lol. Would anyone be able to direct me to a few different builds that would be viable for what I’m wanting? Thanks!

I’m also torn on which profession to main. I currently have an 80 necro and it just is disappointing. The weapon skills aren’t terribly exciting to press, you pretty much have to have a staff no matter what spec you’re running, and not to mention their dmg to me seems totally lackluster.

I think I like the idea of ranged, but it isn’t required. I’m looking for a profession that is wanted in PvE and TPvP.
I tend to like dps classes that have multiple ways of getting out of sticky/deadly situations, also I like buffing people but that’s not really required. Also if there are classes that are really wanted/required in TPvP and PvE that aren’t FOTM that would be awesome!

Thanks for your help!
