I just came back to GW 2 after a ~3.5 year break and bought the Heart of Thorns expansion. Before I quit I managed to get full exotic gear on my level 80 warrior, but since I’ve been away for so long, alot have changed and I now feel kinda lost and I don’t really know what I should be doing. I’ve started on the HoT-questline, and I noticed that I have forgotten alot about the game in general.

My goal is to gear up and eventually do some endgame PvE and WvW.

Any advice for a confused “old-timer” that feels lost in the vast world of Tyria?

My advice would be to level another character naturally from 1 to 80. That way you will get all the tutorial tips, and familiarize yourself, somewhat, with the game again.

Welcome return, and good luck.

I would agree. Pick another profession and level it up. You don’t have to take it all the way to 80 – by the time you hit 20 or 30 you’ll probably remember a lot and get “back in the groove” and can segue to your warrior again.

As mentionned, start a new character so you get the basics. It shouldn’t take too long. What I find much harder as a returning playing is getting into the meta and understanding what you need to do and how to achieve what you want to.

The reason for doing as these people have said is because a lot has changed. I think the biggest change is the specialization system and how traits are managed. Since you also bought HoT, you also may have noticed the mastery system, kind of a end game use for experience and leveling, mostly relevant to the new maps of HoT and living story season 3.

The actual game play hasn’t changed. Active defense (dodge, evade, block, blind, etc) is still better than just taking it to the face, and most of the stats are the same, though we have two new ones, expertise and concentration, which boost condition duration and boon duration respectively.

Skills and traits have changed so much in that time, it might be worth it if you want to stick with warrior to just level another one, so you can slowly get used to the new skills and traits. I’m assuming that was your one character from way back when because you really liked that class, so just an idea, but I personally like variety.

Welcome back traveler,

I found myself in the same situation and returned to a lot of unknown aspects. Starting a new character helped me get back into things as well as set goals as to what I want to be working towards. If you still have your level 80 boost I would hold onto to it and use it once everything begins to comeback and as you learn new aspects of the game. I must add that I highly recommend unlocking the glider through HoTs maps as it add a lot to the game all around. This can be done through HoTs Missions and leveling up once (81) in Verdant Brink and using a Master Point (awarded through HoTs Mission/Achievements) which you will end up at after the first HoTs Mission. My guild will be running HoTs map completion if you want to join tonight for Hero Points on your Warrior as elite spec. required a large amount of Hero Points to level.

HoTs Hero Points = 10 HP
Rest of Tyria Hero Points = 1 HP
