Hey everybody! I’m a long time gw2 vet who has just returned from a long break. I stopped playing basically right when HoT came out (a little ironic), and I really need help to 1)know what’s going on and 2) pick a class to play/main (I’ve always been very indecisive on classes)

1) If anybody wouldn’t mind just outlining a few basic changes that have ocurred, it would help me greatly to jump back into the game
2) I tend to have lots of trouble settling on a class. I’ve managed to get a guardian and an ele to level 80. I now have a lvl 80 booster, and am trying to decide which class to boost/main. I’ve always loved my guard, but sometimes I really want to change his race, so I COULD use a booster to do that, but I feel like it would be a waste. I’ve been looking into the new class specializations and this is what it’s come down to: Theif/Daredevil: does plenty of damage and gives a really cool new feel to the theif, Warrior/Berserker: warrior has always been fun and viable, and now u can go flippin crazy in berserk mode and it’s hilariously fun, Necro/Reaper: necros tend to get trash talked so I’m not sure were they are in the meta at the moment, but reaper looks bada** and seems incredibly awesome, Guard/DH: I love my guard, but apparentally they aren’t doing too well right now (?), and lastly Rev/herald: I’ve heard rev is very fun and viable, and they look incredibly fun.

Some basic notes: -I tend to like melee heavy hitting classes better, but it doesn’t matter too much to me, aoe is favorable, I tend to like to have a little bit of survivability, and a little more of an active playstyle is preferred, like to give a little bit to the group

Thank you so much to anyone who reads through this entire thing and offers any help!!!

Guard/DH is worth a spin especially if you liked Guard previously. Main difference in play style is that you get a bow that can do a good bit of damage, and if anything gets close to you, switch to mace etc and be very solid.

Just the thing for HoT maps!

Additional getting the Hero Points for the Elite Spec is likely to be much easier as travel in HoT maps is no longer culled by massive mob numbers and fast re-spawns. You can also get them from WvW if you’re on an active server. HoT maps give 10 hero points per mode, WvW gives about 10 per rank increase. Core gives one per node.

Apart from the HoT maps and Elite Spec there hasn’t been much changed, imo – although quite a lot was broken (but has just recently been fixed again).

Yea … where to start. I would recommend reading the following two patch notes …

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-October-23-2015

which is the HoT patch notes, ignore the Halloween event info.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-April-19-2016

which is this weeks which “fixed” issues with HoT.

The major wiki topics are

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Specialization
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Revenant

I’m about playing what you feel like, forget whatever is “meta”. Since you like hitting things you may like Revenant. Not sure if it’s a class you should instantly level to 80 in but … it’s the ele of heavy armor melee.

We are heroes. This is what we do!
