Hi, I’ve played gw2 mostly after it’s release, and no matter how deep i get into reading about pvp changes from 2014 i can’t really grasp one thing. When i am doing PvP now i get 80 lvl automatically but my equipment stays the same. So lvl 1 goes into pvp: there I am 80 but i have my crappy armor from first lvl stat-wise or only in appearance?

only in appearance, all stats are done via runes, sigils, and amulets. armor and weapons are for looks only.

Look for the PvP build button in the very top center of your screen when you are in the heart of the mists. Everything is done from there, not the usual hero panel.

Your PvP gear is separate from your PvE/WvW gear, don’t worry. Even a brand new level 2 character has access to the same PvP gear now once they enter HotM. Just pick an amulet, runes, and sigils. Your equipped weapons only determine your 1-5 skills, not any stats.

I have a sword, a dagger, and an estimated life span of 2.47 seconds.

In other games you have to grind for months to get pvp gear, in this game you make your character, join Heart of the Mists and you will now have everything you need to play pvp, and your stats will be the same as the person started 3 years ago.

On your top screen there are some symbols, one if them will have two tabs. First tab is were you pick runes and then sigils for weapon and the trinket with stats of your choice.
Regardless what runes and sigils you add in this tab, it will never effect the gear you use outside of PvP.

When you added runes, sigils and trinket, you pick next tab which is your build. Builds in pvp are often different from what you use in pve or wvw.
If you are uncertain what to use for your class then have a look at this webside http://metabattle.com/wiki/Conquest which will give you builds to use that many are using already. It is a good thing to start with. If you click the weapon in one of the lines it will take you to a side were you will have everything explained about the build and how you can use it at it’s best.

When you have added your build, picked weapons, added runes, sigils and the trinket, and also added the skills on your right bar that you want to use, you are no ready to join a match. You start with Unranked matches.
