Just returning to game after long break. Going to try for a legendary weapon. So in regards to that:
Where are good spots for farming globs of ecto?
What are some fast ways to farm karma?
Are there still champion and event trains, if so, where?
How does one get unidentified dye now?
What ways can one get laurels?

Better to ask for good spots for getting rares. And that’s world boss trains as long as you are high enough to get the 1 rare chest per boss per day.

None that I can think of. But it’s not something I would do so … ignorance.

Are there still champion and event trains, if so, where?

Low level champ trains were destroyed because some couldn’t play nicely with new players. There is still the world boss train and there are several places to get the timetable. I use the one from Dulfy.

What ways can one get laurels?

They are a login reward now and come in various amounts depending where on the 28 cycle you are on.

The reason on the rares is that you can salvage level 68+ rares/exotics for a chance at ectos. I use a mystic/master salvage kit on my rares, and up that to a black lion salvage kit if there’s a sigil/rune I really want.

But for rares, you can also check out a map you probably missed – Silverwastes. It’s west of Brisban Wildlands, and once you get to know the meta events there, you can get a lot of loot, including rares, from that.

Also, on the dyes – if you check the hero panel now, and go to the dye tab, you can see every dye there now, including dyes you don’t have (with a lock). You can find a lot of them on the tp, so you may want to just buy the dyes straight off to unlock most of them. Maybe start with some unidentified dyes, depending on how many you have, and then just buy the ones you want but haven’t unlocked.

Ectos? from the TP.
Karma? EoTM, Teq, FoTM
Laurels? Daily log-in rewards.
Dye? TP, crafting.

Glob of Ectoplasm
1) Dungeon won’t give you much exotic and rare to salvage. But it will give you a lot of gold and token. Those token can be transfer into rare and exotic that you can salvage. You can also use the gold to buy more glob, but I wouldn’t do that if I were you. You gonna need a lot of gold later.
2) Silverwaste either by doing events or by doing chest farm will yield a impressive amount of rare to salvage. It will at the same time give you a high amount of crafting material that you can either use directly on your legendary or sold for gold.
3) Wold Boss train is also good for that. I’m not a fan since overall it give you a little less total reward, but it can fun, especially for a new/returning player, exploring the world and fight all the world boss at least a couple times.

Karma
1) Edge of the Mist karma train is the best way. It can be hard to find a good map, but once you have one karma will rain on you. It’s also a great way to get XP and WXP.
2) You don’t need karma if you cut the middle man and go strait for the obsidian shard. The chest farm in silverwaste will eventually full your collectible with obsidian shard, it’s even faster than Edge of the Mist if you want obsidian shard directly.
3) If you want to cut the middle man even more, sPvP give you Mystic Clover at the end of some reward track. This is not as fast as the other two method, but when you do sPvP anyway because you like it, it’s a great way to advance your legendary while doing something else than farming.
