Ruined logs using Oric. tool?
Were you being attacked at the time you were trying to harvest the Ancient Wood?
I’ve used to notice ruined logs appearing in that circumstance.

There is apparently a bug where certain profession traits can cause this if you are attacked while harvesting.
Yup, you were attacked while harvesting.
Being attacked isn’t always the reason. I had a similar experience last week while gathering ori and ancient wood.
I logged on, my character was in Frostgorge Sound and at the first ori node I received ruined ore. I tried removing/replacing the tools. No change. I moved to the ancient wood and received ruined logs. Again I removed/replaced the tools trying to reset them. No change.
So instead to wasting tools and nodes on this character I logged on another character to test it. Same map, same nodes, no issues.
When back to the original character and the issue was gone. I haven’t encountered the issue since.
I believe it is “ghost in the machine” type of bug. It only occurs when unique circumstances are present and extremely hard to duplicate.

Yes, but since the only time this was discussed was over 4 months ago and the situation didn’t have any obvious relation to what I observed I chose to ignore it.
And no, I wasn’t being attacked on any of the occasions this has happened.

Sometimes! Maybe more people would use it if the feature wasn’t so … <list of words that will get filtered>.
Usually this is due to being attacked while harvesting. It could also be you were ‘stuck’ in combat and that caused the ruined ore.
Those two issues aside, it does appear there is a random bug with this as I have heard several people in the past claim they were not in any form of combat and they have had this happen.
