I just got to 80 on my Elementalist in this last week, crafted myself a set of rare armor in celebration, and a rare weapon. Did the beginning bits in Fort Trinity, and now a story mission sends me out into the middle of the water somewhere.

Anyway, I just don’t understand… more than once I have been quite literally yanked back and forth between mobs, with no way to take any action (since cantrips only break, not prevent) pretty much till I die. (I am not a glass cannon, Toughness and Vitality are on every piece of gear. I am Traited extremely defensive.

I see people talk about groups, but a group will not save me from this, short of an entire large group zerg or something.

I do not understand, as this has completely sapped the fun I was having out of the game. I don’t mind difficulty as long as it is a challenge, not cheap. I am finding all activities and enemies in these zones cheap.

Is it just an underwater thing? Any advice out there?

I feel your pain, and although I don’t have any advice, I look forward to seeing what others have to say in order to survive these zones.

I’m a lvl 80 Ranger and constantly get zerg’d by Risen, even when carefully trying to pull one. They have an unbelievable aggro range, their speed is crazy fast and getting jerked back and forth between two of them makes for a dead Ranger quick

It’s made it to where I have started playing an alt because I’ve finished Exploring on all the other zones but those and dying repeatedly within a few moments makes it not very fun. I don’t mind dying, I’m a Ranger, I die and have learned to die with grace (most of the time) but these zones are unreal…

Watch where you go, learn which mobs have the pulling ability and avoid them, favoring running near mobs that do not pull.

Stick at it and it becomes easier.

My homeworld is Blackgate.
I am a GW2 player in New Zealand.

It’s likely you’re encountering Risen Preservers with Hammers. These have a similar ability to the Guardian Greatsword’s Binding Blade, i.e. it will send out a projectile and pull the target towards it (as well as pulling itself forwards). The only way to counter/avoid this ability is either dodging or blocking the attack, or with Stability boons.

Additionally, Risen Preservers underwater also have the Guardian’s Weight of Justice ability that Sinks you. It is essentially a stun and can be broken out of with the appropriate Utility skills.

Ok, that helps me understand the mechanic they are using at least.

I really feel there’s a real lack of depth perception under water. and a third person camera is just awful for 3d awareness imo.

My Guardian will probably have an easier time with all the stability boons etc. My Elementalist is lacking that boon I think (at least on the staff I’m currently using)…

I’ll have to keep an eye out for Preservers….

I still feel this is really cheap design. I’ve had the same opinion on every other MMO.

Taking control away from your character has been fun in this many games : ZERO. Its a poor mechanic that all too many MMOs use as a crutch to make things more ‘difficult’.

I will heed the advice given thus far tho, thank you.

some risen kraits also have pulls.

You can’t really deal with this zone, you just have to survive it or skip it after doing your story. Cursed Shore is better but not by much. the inbetween zones is just as bad as ruins.

though in Cursed shore, even as a guardian, you tend to get bounced around a lot depending what mobs are on you. If you’re fighting apes, yeah, get 3 of them on you and they knock you down and knock your prone corpse around like a soccer ball. You literally bounce around. If you’re unlucky, they can kill you while doing this.

It’s worth it to have 1 CC break available but having more is, in my experience, is a waste. If you need to use more than 1 CC break, then it’s likely the rest aren’t going to help you much. Just have multiple heals ready.
