Hi All,

I am wondering what is the salvaging point as far as dollar value for Exotics is. Above 2gold = Sell, below = Salvage? I’m looking to acquire some Dark Matter in order to craft some Ascended gear. But I’m a bit hesitant in wanting to salvage items that can fetch a few coin on the TP. I’m not poor, but I’m not rich either. I’ve already crafted 1 Greatsword and I’m looking to upgrade a few other characters. At the cost per weapon in material alone, I’m looking to balance my funds out. Basically I’m just looking for the general consensus here. I’m sure by now the sweet spot has been defined. But since the Dark Matter can’t be bought, I’ll need to salvage some stuff.

TIA
Mike

I usually check the sigil/rune price. sometimes when the exotic is worth more, it is just due to the sigil. I think the last exotic i got was a greatsword with a superior sigil of fire. The sword was worth almost 4 gold. The sigil was about that much. Always salvage when the sigil/rune is worth about as much as the item (unless you dont have a BLSK, then its your call). Also note, that some exotics can salvage inscriptions/insignias, which usually also go for 1.5-2 gold.

Exotics need some research and not just a default if this price, sell, kind of thing like rares get.

EDIT: your best bet to get exotics is to buy some stats that dont sell for much (ive seen some armors priced below a gold each), do some research and buy those exotics that are priced close to their sigil/rune price, or salvage dungeon armor (get dire/rabid/soldiers for a chance to get insignias for even more gold).

Yeah, I choose whether or not to salvage based on the stats of the item, the item level, and any upgrades inside the item.

For example: berserker level 80 armor tends to go for over 3g a piece. Thus, I’ll usually sell it. Level 80 exotic armor with other stats can sometimes go for less than 1g, though. I’ll usually just salvage those. If an item has a Strength rune (or a similarly pricey rune), I’m salvaging for sure and selling the rune and any ectos.

As for weapons, I always sell greatswords, staves, and daggers. Everything else is subject to whims and current prices and any upgrades.

Plenty of L68+ exotics will instantly sell for below 80 silver these days. So I sell any exotics that go for more than that.

If you find yourself running out of Dark Matter, then start putting in buy offers for those cheaper ones: 50-60s will do it for low-demand armor (or you can be even more aggressive).

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I’ll need to take a few minutes and have a look at each item and treat them accordingly. Many of the Exotics I get are the named ones. Cobalt, Bonetti’s Rapier, Truth etc. I guess that perhaps the skin might have more value than the Sigil on the weapon. I assume that I should always get the Sigil using the BLSK that I can sell for coin. Since I don’t have the time or inclination to buy to salvage, I should be ok.

That sounds like a decent plan.
